Title: LSD

1
LSD
  • By Jorge and Ben

2
What is it?
  • LSD is one of the most potent mood-changing
chemicals. It is manufactured from lysergic acid,
which is found in ergot, a fungus that grows on
    grains

3
What are its street names?
  • LSD has over eighty street names.
  • INCLUDING
  • Acid,
  • blotter acid,
  • window pane,
  • dots,
  • mellow yellow
  • black sunshine
  • blue moons
  • blue star

4
How is it used?
  • LSD is sold on the street in tablets, capsules,
and occasionally in liquid form. ingested orally.
  • It is often added to absorbent paper, such as
blotter paper, and divided into small decorated
squares, with each square representing one dose

5
What does it do to the body?
  • The short-term effects of LSD are unpredictable.
They depend on the amount of the drug taken the
user's personality, mood, and expectations and
the surroundings in which the drug is used.
  • The user feels the first effects of the drug
within 30 to 90 minutes of ingestion.
  • The effects clear up after 12 hours.
  • The physical effects include dilated pupils,
higher body temperature, increased heart rate and
blood pressure, sweating, loss of appetite,
    sleeplessness, dry mouth, and tremors

6
What does it do to the brain?
  • Hallucinogenic Drugs alter a person's perceptions
of reality and may cause hallucinations and other
    alterations of the senses.
  • It is possible to have a bad reaction to LSD.
This is referred to as a "bad trip" and may cause
panic, confusion, suspicion, anxiety, and loss of
    control
  • These long-term effects may include flashbacks,
    mood swings, impaired thinking, unexpected
outbursts of violence and eventually possibly
depression that may lead to death or suicide
  • Sensations may seem to "cross over" for the user,
giving the feeling of hearing colors and seeing
    sounds

7
Is it addictive and why?
  • LSD is not considered an addictive drug since it
does not produce compulsive drug-seeking behavior
as do cocaine, amphetamine, heroin, alcohol, and
    nicotine.
  • However, LSD produces tolerance, so some users
who take the drug a lot must take progressively
higher doses to achieve the state of intoxication
that they had previously achieved, which could
    lead to overdose

8
How to tell if someone is using it?
  • Look for dilated pupils, higher body temperature,
increased heart rate and blood pressure,
sweating, insomnia, tremors, and dry mouth.
  • Many of the LSD users experience frightening
thoughts and feelings and fear of insanity and
    death.

9
Treatment

    a rehab facility
