What is Positive Impact?
  • Mission Statement Positive Impact is an
    organization of student volunteers who work to
    enhance the safety and enjoyment of students at
    university football games. Positive Impact is a
    peer program designed to afford students the
    opportunity to take responsibility for their
    actions without direct punitive action from law
    enforcement.
  • Purpose Statement Positive Impact serves as the
    first level of intervention with student fans at
    athletic events. Positive Impact volunteers
    contact fans in a positive manner to enforce all
    university event policies.
  • Goals and Objectives
  • P.I. volunteers serve as positive role models and
    educators of Hughes Stadium policies, university
    event policies, and tailgating policies.
  • Positive Impact will refer transported
    individuals to programs avaliable through the
    Office for Alcohol Education.
  • Positive Impact encourages student responsibility
    at all events when alcohol is involved.

Top Four Positive Impact Messages
  • Use cups, not bottles.
  • Do not bring alcohol or any other prohibited
    items into the stadium.
  • Rams Express is available for students who dont
    feel safe driving home.
  • There is heightened enforcement on underage
    drinking.

Purpose of Program
  • Responsible for monitoring and encouraging
    responsible activity in Hughes Stadium
  • Includes Tailgate Area
  • East Stands
  • Student Overflow Areas
  • Bathrooms
  • Concourses
  • Peer Program will take a positive contact
    approach
  • Will work as first line of intervention before
    police need to get involved

Expectations
  • Your safety is our 1 expectation
  • There will be 30 volunteers at each home football
    game
  • Each group must provide six volunteers
  • All volunteers must arrive at the ASCSU office
    three and a half hours before kickoff.
  • All volunteers must stay for the entire game and
    at least ½ hour following the game for a final
    sweep and debrief.

Procedures Pre-Game
  • Attend a training session or watch online video
  • Arrive at ASCSU office three and a half hours
    prior to kickoff.
  • Attend pre-game briefing held at north end of
    stadium prior to kickoff.
  • Bring a variety of clothing, it can be very cold
    or quite warm at certain times. Bring sunscreen.
  • We will transport you to the stadium and back
    home before and after each game

Procedures Tailgating and Parking Lot
  • Walk through, monitor, and make contacts with
    designated supervisorss
  • No kegs, hard liquor, and beer over 3.2 percent
  • Officers will confiscate keg taps and return them
    at an appropriate time
  • No more than 25 people per group, ask them to
    disperse
  • Monitor that drinkers have wrist bands
  • There will be an officer assigned or near each
    P.I. Group
  • Encourage students to enter stadium by one half
    hour prior to kickoff.
  • Inform students No alcohol can be brought into
    the stadium

Procedures In the Stadium
  • Enforce all Hughes Stadium and university event
    policies
  • P.I. volunteers should stay on concourse
  • Do not roam stands or remain in the crowd unless
    making a contact
  • If police need to make contact, assist them
    through crowd control

Procedures Transports
  • Intoxicated individuals need to be evaluated by a
    medical personnel at the detox station located on
    the north-side (near gate 2) before a transport
    can be made.
  • Intoxicated individuals are to be taken home. No
    where else.
  • A male and female must both be present in the van
    when escorting an individual home.
  • Stop van and leave situation, if it gets
    unmanageable. Contact police.
  • Must keep track of transports.
  • Have individual fill out waiver form before
    leaving.

Post-Game Procedures
  • Do a final sweep of bathrooms and hidden areas
    of the stadium.
  • Meet as an entire group for a de-brief.
  • Will discuss number of cups distributed, contacts
    made, and transports given.
  • What did work, what didnt work, and suggestions
  • Return to vans and return equipment once in
    office
  • A report of all contacts and transports will be
    given to the Police Department
