  Field Officers when involved in enforcement

  flammables, toxics, oxidisers, corrosives,
  ecotoxics

  Technical Specialists across all HSNO Properties

• OSH will enforce HSNO directly when specific
  controls are breached and general enforcement
  under HSE Act is inappropriate
• Compliance Notices

• OSH will monitor activities relating to new
  organisms via systems under HSE Act
• Specific HSNO issues will be passed to MAF
  (Bio-security)
• Environmental matters will be referred to TAs
  and/or Regional Councils

What are the HSNO Penalties?

• Failing to apply controls
• 500,000
• 50,000 per day - continuing offence
• Mitigate or remedy adverse effects
• Imprisonment for up to 3 months
• Failing to comply with a compliance notice

• Mitigate or remedy adverse effects
• Personates, obstructs, falsely informs of an
  emergency, wrongly label therefore misleading the
  presence of hazardous substances
