Lesson About Rainforests
  • Amber Maddack

  • The rainforests of the world have many different
    locations.
  • Some are located in central America, but have
    been mostly been cleared out.
  • There are some in Africa, as well as Southern
    Asia.
  • In New Zealand the rainforests have animals that
cannot be found any where else in the world.
  • The largest rainforest in the world is located in
    the Amazon.
  • One fifth of the worlds animal species and one
tenth of the worlds plant species lives in the
    Amazon rainforest.
  • The rainforests have a very dense humid climate
that keeps the plants and animals alive.

Locations of Rainforests
Why cant rainforests grow in the United States?

Animals of the rainforest
  • Over half of the worlds animal species live in
    the rainforest.
  • They live in the canopy, and on the rainforest
    floor.
  • All the animals eat different food based on where
    they live in the rainforest.
  • Animals are found in a wide variety of colors.
The Macaw is red and yellow and blue it is a
    very brightly colored bird.

  • There are thousands of different kinds of plants
    in the rainforest.
  • All the plants have different jobs in the
    rainforest.
  • Some plants are food for different animals, and
some plants make up the canopy of the rainforest.
  • The canopy acts as a shelter to all the animals
and the plants on the forest floor.

People in the rainforest
  • Besides the vast variety of plants and animals in
the rainforest, there are also many people and
    tribes that live there.
  • The Pygmies are a people with two different
tribes the Mbuti, and the Baka. They live by
hunting animals and gathering plants. This people
    is from Central Africa.
  • The Huli tribe is different, the men and women
live apart from each other. The live in Papua New
Guinea in large houses that hold a group of
    people.
  • The Yanomami is the largest group of the
Amerindian tribes. They build there village
around a yano, or big group house, made of vines
    and leaves.

6
Deforestation
  • Now, the world is cutting down the rainforest for
many different reasons. By doing so they are
destroying rare animal and plant species.
  • Many of our medicine today was created through
the help of rainforest plants. Scientists have
not had enough time to study the rainforest.
Perhaps there is a cure for cancer or AIDS in
    there.
  • Destroying the rainforests also adds to the
problem of the hole in our ozone layer. The trees
of the rainforest give off so much clean oxygen
that it helps keep the problem at bay. Without
them it will get worse faster.

7
Why we should appreciate the rainforest.
  • We get a lot of things from the rainforests, here
    are some food examples.
  • Chocolate
  • Cinnamon
  • Sugar
  • Pineapples
  • Look at all the beauty that the rainforest gives
us. Different species of flowers, beautiful
waterfalls, amazing animals, and cleaner air.
  • The rainforests are filled with mystery and
wonder. Who knows what lives in them that have
    yet to be discovered?
