• Recruit 250 births/yr from sampling units
  (segments)
• All children born to mothers in sampling segments
  are eligible
• Segments
• Continuous, mutually exclusive, and cover entire
  county
• Use census blocks with equivalent numbers of
  births
• Process
• Draft maps of segments based on spatial analysis
  of births
• Uses geocoded addresses on birth certificates
  (2002-2005)
• Community input neighborhoods, communities and
  critical boundaries
• Maps revised based on births, community input,
  and growth reports
