Why we do what we do

• This is to illustrate that the main reason most
  theologians (and the general Christian public) do
  not accept the days of creation as ordinary
  24-hour days is because of certain beliefs that
  popped up in the 18th century.

Why we do what we do

• At that time, most people in the church believed
  that God created in six days just thousands of
  years ago. However, the idea of millions of years
  for the age of the fossil-bearing sediments
  started to become popularized. Many scientists
  started to insist that the Earth was many
  millions of years old and that the layers of rock
  containing the fossils were laid down over
  millions of years. The supposed millions-of-years
  age of these fossil-bearing rocks was devised on
  the basis of the belief that the layers were laid
  down slowly over millions of years. In other
  words, there was no scientific proof for this
  idea.

Why we do what we do

• Because many scientists started to promote the
  idea of millions of years for the age of the
  fossil record, many theologians felt that they
  also had to accept the millions of years. Thus,
  the scientists handed the millions of years to
  the theologians and the theologians basically
  said, We need to fit the millions of years into
  the Bible. Therein lies the real reason behind
  why so many Christians question the days of
  creation. They do not do it on the basis of the
  Biblical text, but on the belief that they must
  fit millions of years into the Bible. - Answers

• As we see here, death and suffering, like those
  from the thorns, were not a part of "very good".
  This is something progressive creation denies.

• As addressed with previous verses, the days could
  not be long periods of time. Also, if they were
  long periods of time, how could there be plants
  before the sun and insects were created? The sun
  is a required energy source, and insects are
  needed for plants to reproduce.

• As you can see, the flood was worldwide. If it
  was not, then God would have broken his covenant
  by bring many floods later that have destroyed
  life. The flood destroyed all life, not just a
  small group of people in a small area. Also,
  there would be no need for an ark that took up to
  120 years to build if one could move to another
  area.

• As already addressed, we have seen that sin did
  have a world effect--from thorns to a world flood.

• The Bible (and even the fossil record) show that
  there were no human-like creatures before Adam
  and Eve. Progressive creationism has no basis to
  it but to try to fit secular evolution into the
  Bible. All fossils can be shown to be apes or
  humans there is no progression.

• Supporters like Hugh Ross say The facts of
  nature may be likened to a sixty-seventh book of
  the Bible. Some readers might fear I am implying
  that Gods revelation through nature is somehow
  on an equal footing with His revelation through
  the words of the Bible. Let me simply state that
  truth, . . . is information that is perfectly
  free of contradiction and error. Just as it is
  absurd to speak of some entity as more perfect
  than another, so also one revelation of Gods
  truth cannot be held as inferior or superior to
  another they are simply different, just like
  the content of Ezra is distinct from that of
  Romans.

• There are some major issues when you call nature
  the 67th book of the Bible. Evolution cant be
  tested and observed. There is no way to prove
  its true. So Hugh Ross goes against his own
  logic. Truth can only be found in the Bible. We
  dare not mix absolute truth with mens
  preconieved ideas that evolution is true. The
  writers of Bible were given inspiration by God.
  Todays scientists that believe in billions of
  years were not.
• 2 Timothy 316 All scripture is given by
  inspiration of God, and is profitable for
  doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
  instruction in righteousness

  forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the
  fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose
  seed is in itself, upon the earth and it was so.

  and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after
  his kind and it was so.

  kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and

• As shown in the previous slide, the Bible states
  plants and animals were designed as kinds. Roses
  bring forth roses, and dogs bring forth dogs.
  This is what science observes today. However,
  progressive creationism does not teach this.

• Progressive Creationism is a theory used by
  people trying to make the Bible fit evolution,
  which is a wrong way to go about things in a
  fallen world. For example, you cant make the
  Bible fit with society. If you do that, you open
  a door which allows you to make it fit many
  ideals, such as homosexuality and abortion that
  our society promotes. What needs to happen is
  society trying to fall in line with the Bible
  instead.

Gap TheoryWhat it is

• There are geological ages between verses 1 and 2
  of Genesis 1.
• It is opposed to evolution
• It promotes the idea of either ancient stars, an
  ancient earth, or both.
• Some who hold to gap theory believe in Lucifers
  flood," a flood that took place before Adam and
  Eve.
• It holds to billions of years of suffering and
  death in the world before the fall.

  that there isnt some large gap during creation.
  The order of creation is carefully listed and
  couldn't be explained any clearer than it already
  is.

  Death and suffering came because of mans sin.
  The idea that everything was good on a earth that
  has death and suffering on it doesnt make
  Biblical sense and distorts a persons view on
  what life was meant to be originally.

• The problems with theistic evolution are endless.
  To say God used death and suffering to create
  human-like creatures is blasphemy. As already
  established, death and suffering were the result
  of sin, not God using evolution to create us. The
  days of creations are clearly 24 hour days, not
  billions of years.

Final Conclusion

• As I have shown there is only one correct
  interpretation of creation. We can try to form to
  the standards of this fallen world by becoming
  willingly ignorant like God has warned us about
  or we can hold Gods word to the level it is
  suppose to be held too.
