BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE

• A small active bird with a black cap, white
  cheeks, and a black bib.
• Both sexes are similar in appearance.
• Black-capped Chickadees are approximately 5
  inches in length.
• The Black-capped Chickadee is often found in
  small flocks foraging
• through woodlands and at feeders.

CARDINALS

• Cardinals are a medium-sized songbird.
• Cardinals are about 8.75 inches in length.
• Cardinals eat on a variety of foods including
  seeds, leaf buds, flowers, berries, and fruit.
• Males are nearly all brilliant red and the female
  is soft grayish brown on the back with
• areas of red on the tail, crest, and wings.

BLUE JAY

• Blue Jays are medium-sized (approximately 11
  inches in length), colorful birds with
• crests. Their crown and crest are light
  violet-blue.
• Its diet is mostly vegetarian, including
  especially acorns, beech nuts, and seeds.
• Blue Jays also eat a variety of other foods
  including grasshoppers, beetles and
• caterpillars.
• Blue Jays are capable of making a wide variety of
  sounds.

FLICKER

• Northern Flickers are the "anteaters" of the bird
  world. They feed on the
• ground, frequenting lawns and leaf litter.
• Northern Flickers do not have the super-hammering
  apparatus of most
• woodpeckers. This means they can't drill into
  hard wood and need rotten or soft
• trees for nest-holes and they feed primarily
  on the ground or downed, rotten logs.
• The flicker is a medium sized woodpecker at
  approximately 11 inches in length.

JUNCO

• Dark-eyed Juncos are between 5 and 6.6 inches in
  length.
• Males are slightly larger and have more brightly
  colored
• plumaged than females.
• The head, neck, sides, wings, and upper-parts
  are slate gray,
• while the lower parts and under-tail are
  white.
• The males are darker.

NUTHATCH

• Nuthatches are 4.5 in. in length.
• Red-breasted Nuthatches are agile tree climbers
  that can
• creep up or down a tree trunk.
• Nuthatches are almost always found in conifer
  trees.
• They live in pairs and often one can hear the
  male and
• female "talking softly" to each other.

TUFTED TITMOUSE

• A small, gray, mouse-colored bird with a tufted
  crest
• about 5-6 in. in length.
• The Tufted Titmouse is an active and noisy bird.
• The Tufted Titmouse often chases away birds that
  
• are the same size or smaller at the feeders.
• During winter, this titmouse catches its food in
  bark
• crevasses.
