INTRODUCTION
Description is a commonly used method of
paragraph development. In order to present a
clear picture about something in front of
readers, you have to supply many specific details
in describing an object or process. For instance,
paragraph 7 of section A is a good description of
London under attack

Fires burned, houses fell, gas pipes burst, and
dark smoke rose from the streets. Men, women, and
children felt the effect of the bombs. Radar
sirens wailed, ambulances rushed from one place
of agony to another, and fire fighters faced the
flames hour after hour.

One of my prize possessions is a small golden
commemorative coin with an archer shooting an
arrow on the front. The coin was issued in 1990
to commemorate the Eleventh Asian Games held in
Beijing. It is one and a half centimeters in
diameter. On the back is the national emblem of
the Peoples Republic of China. Over the years,
the value of this coin has increased
tremendously. Many people invest money in
collectable coins as they will become more and
more valuable as time goes by.

Sample
This rectangular-shaped courtyard is where I
spent my childhood. In the middle of the yard
stood three magnolia trees. Under one of the
trees theres a stone table. My grandparents and
I used to have supper on it in summer days. At
the western end of the courtyard theres a well
with a pool around it. It is used for washing. In
the north of the yard, exactly facing the gate is
a row of houses. They are ideal to live in
because theyre sunny and warm in winter and cool
in summer. The room on the western end used to
belong to me, but now its worn and deserted.
