What is leadership?
  • Definition (proposing a view of the future and
    encouraging movement towards it)
  • Leadership theory (traits, behavior, situation)
  • Born or made? (can leadership be taught, or
    learned?)
  • Leader vs leadership (person vs role)
  • Management vs leadership (doing things right vs
    doing the right thing)
  • Leadership practices (reflection, vision,
    communication)

Non-traditional learning
  • Video-based material
  • Facilitated deconstruction discussion, not
    teaching
  • Questions debate, not answers
  • Open learning goals
  • Leadership cannot be taught.
  • However, good films can teach significant truths
about the human condition, revealing how people
think, how they act, and what makes them tick.
Purposeful viewing of carefully selected movie
    fragments, combined with a facilitated
deconstruction of the material, can be an
    innovative, multi-media learning experience.
    (Clemens Wolff, 1999, p. xiii)
