2
Farming in Egypt Page completed by Mrs. Reads
class as a group
  • Black Land was great for farming. In July, the
Nile River flooded. The floodwater dumped mud
along the river. In November, farmers plowed and
planted seeds in the rich, fertile soil that was
full of things to help plants grow. In March they
harvested a plentiful number of crops. It was
better to farm in the Black Land than the desert.

Mummiesby Andrew M.
  • The first mummies were made by accident.
They buried dead bodies in the desert. There, the
bodies dried out in the hot sand and didnt
decay. They became mummies. A mummy is a dead
body that lasts. It is weird how they made
    mummies.

4
Egyptian Craftspeopleby Elizabeth C.
  • There were many skilled artists and
craftspeople in Egypt. Painters decorated palaces
and temples. Weavers wove cloth. It would be easy
to weave. Shipbuilders built sailboats, barges,
    and boats with flat bottoms.

5
Pyramidsby Hector M.
  • It took many years and thousands of
workers to build a pyramid. The wooden rollers
were used to move giant stones over 4,000 pounds.
They built large ramps to raise stones up. The
work was done by slaves and farmers. They
believed building the pyramids would help them
get to the next life when they died.

6
King TutankhamunBy Carlitos D.
  • For many years Egyptologists searched
for the tomb of a pharaoh. Tutankhamun was a boy
king pharaoh when he was nine years old. Howard
Carter searched for more than five years. In
1922 Carter found steps buried beneath ancient
huts. He began digging and found an entrance to a
tomb. Howard Carter had a hard time looking for
    King Tutankhamuns tomb!

Egyptian Religionby Sean W.
  • Egyptian gods and goddesses are pictured in
different ways. Some of them were ordinary men
and women. Also some look like animals. There
are some that are half-human and half-animals. I
think it is strange that they had more than 1
    god.

8
Egyptian Funeralsby Shervin S.
  • Egyptian funerals were very big events.
Mummies were taken in a tomb in a funeral
procession. A funeral procession was sort of like
a parade. The procession included family members,
    friends, priests, and servants. Families
sometimes hired people to walk with them. Its
strange how they held the casket in the
    procession.

9
Egyptian Tombsby Tyler G.
  • Egyptians filled tombs with everything they
might need for the next life. Mummies were buried
with clothes, sandals, and fans. They also put
make-up, wigs, combs, and mirrors in tombs. They
needed food and drinks for the next life. I think
they didnt need the stuff for the next life.
