  • Pitfalls for Install
  • Match Voyager Build(a new install with each
Voyager version)- Confused DLLs- Delete the
previous version zip and all As I've said
repeatedly, one should always delete the ZIP file
for the previous version of the toolkit before
downloading a new version. The reason is that
some web browsers appear to overlay existing
files--they go through all the motions, even ask
you if it's OK to overlay--but don't actually do
so you're left with the file you started with,
instead of the new file. It also appears that
some unzippers refuse to overlay files with the
same name so one should also delete the old
versions of the three files that come out of the
ZIP file before unzipping the new version. GS,
    BatchCat-L

What does it do?
  • Can change Name-Title to series entries
  • Can change series entries
  • Can change former entries with no authority to
    new authorized forms
  • Can change part of a subject heading string
  • Example Libraries and adult education z
    Pennsylvania z Philadelphia
  • Can change Name-Title to Uniform Title

12
GHCQ vs. CTKV
  • Global Headings Change Queue will change
bibliographic records associated with a changed
    authority record
  • GHCQ requires someone to run Catjobs 11, 12 and
    13 in Voyager
  • Catalogers Toolkit for Voyager can be used with
an existing authority record with See References
  • CTKV requires cataloger to have CTKV installed

Subject with subdivisions
28
Libraries and adult education
29
Headings with subdivisions
  • Aged (2004) 149 headings and 6891 bibliographic
    records (CTKV 1 hour)
  • Afro-American headings (2001) 4,716 records in
the catalog. Using the GHCQ and changing the
headings manually took me about 4 weeks
  • Handicapped (2002) 1,967 records in about 6
    weeks

Change Subfield Text
Problem 4,310 Bib Records carried over from
NOTIS that had note in 099a field, See note in
LON (Long View) - no longer appropriate
! Same note in 852h of attached MFHDs.
37
Program to change text in a subfield
Input file of record s text file of MFHD IDs
from Voyager Access Query Tag of interest
852 Subfield code h Text to find See note in
LON (Long View) Replacement See notes
Change every occurrence (not checked means change
only first occurrence)
38
Setup and Options
  • ODBC connections
  • Owning Library
  • Cataloging Location
  • Folder for voyager.ini
  • Folder for reports

39
MAGIC !
4,233 MFHDs changed in 22 minutes! 4,310 BIBs
were done in several batches took approximately
3 hours. Report is a text file of Run start and
end date time, how many records were read and
how many were updated.
40
Location Changer - A tool for changing
locations, status codes and item type codes in
Vger item and holdings records. (Strawn,
VgerLocChanger.doc, 2003)
Queens Library site http//130.15.161.74/techse
rv/cat/Sect04/locationchanger01.html Pick and
Scan using barcode, Voyager 2001.2 is quite
useful for changing location and/or item type.
However, Gary's program is definitely useful if
you need to make changes to a multi-volume set or
serial record, to add or remove individual item
statuses, or to make changes to the k subfield
of the holdings record at the same time.
41
What can it do?
Beyond location codeshttp//www.library.northwes
tern.edu/public/voyager2001/locationchanger/VgerLo
cChanger.doc  - change one record at a time. You
use the program in this way when you want to
change some of the items in a particular
category, but not all of them. For example, you
might have a truckload of materials that you want
to move from reference to the stacks, or from the
stacks to a remote storage facility. -
change all of the records that have certain
features in common, e.g.         1.
eliminate a location altogether, and want to move
everything in that location to some other
location.         2. move all items in a
particular location within a given range of
classification numbers to some other location.
3. change the item type code for
materials in a given location to some other
value.
42
Pamphlet Volumes State Library
1,015 MFHDs with specified call number, location
and item type. Location and Item Type to be
changed from Law Stacks to Rare Books Newspaper
Repository from Books-Circulating to Books
Non-Circulating.
43
Location-and-whatever changer
44
Other Interesting Options
Show all Items before Changing. SOUNDS if it
is successful it plays one sound if
unsuccessful, plays a different sound. allowing
the hearing operator to know, without looking at
the screen, whether or not there was a
problem. Log No log? Log only problems? Log
all changes? Validation configurable, complex
