Title: Loving the Pure Word of God

1
Loving the Pure Word of God
  • Taking our knowledge of Gods word from ignorance
    to bliss

2
Introduction
  • It is so easy for supposed Christians to say how
much they love Gods word, but their fruit
    reveals their true heart .
  • People memorize all the words to songs they love.
  • People quote paragraphs of verbiage from movies
    they love.
  • When it comes to Gods word we have difficulty
memorizing scripture, or use scriptures against
    proper context.

3
Introduction
  • Many have difficulty because they truly dont
love Gods word as professed with their lips.
  • Most clap and cheer at entertaining
events....because it is entertaining to our
    ears/eyes (flesh).
  • We sit at the edge of our seats listening to
    charismatic (motivational) speakers about our
    various interests (this includes religious
    worship services).
  • We yawn, however, when the pure and simple word
of God is taught for more than twenty minutes.

4
Introduction
  • This powerful lesson forces us to accept our
current (general) state of biblical ignorance.
  • We will look at the dire situation of ignorance
among Gods people regarding the Scriptures.
  • We will reflect on the attitudes that we need to
have...as gracefully laid out in the 119th Psalm.
  • We will be challenged with the convictions
necessary to be moved by the powerful Word of
    God.

5
The Consequence of Not Loving Gods Word
  • You will not serve God faithfully because you
dont truly know His word to do it faithfully.
  • You will not be able to spiritually discern
between good and evil. Heb. 511-14
  • Your lack of spiritual discernment will bring
about man-made teachings or perverted teachings
regarding Gods word (binding and loosing where
    God hasnt). 1 Tim. 41-3
  • Your eventual ignorance will lead you astray...no
matter what things you do in Gods name.

6
The Consequence of Not Loving Gods Word
  • You will be disciplined by God exiled
    spiritually.
  • Like Gods people of old (Isa. 513) you will go
    into spiritual exile.
  • You are like the prodigal son who is given over
to the ways of the flesh.
  • In the end, unless you change and repent, you
will spend an eternity like the rest of the lost
    in hell.

7
Reflecting On the Necessary Attitude Toward Gods
Word
  • If you want a rich and rewarding life in the
Lord, your attitude toward His word has got to
change not in word, but in deed/fruit.
  • You need to stop fooling yourself thinking you
love Gods word, but find it difficult to read
    to meditate on to study.
  • Your effort increases with your increased love
for His word. Cp. 2 Pet. 318
  • Zeal with permeate through your life as you
continue to increase in your zeal for His word.

8
Reflecting On the Necessary Attitude Toward Gods
Word
  • There are many tools that people have used (and
use today) to memorize Gods word. Cp. Psalm 119
  • Psalms and hymns were put to music (typically
vocal, but included instruments at times).
  • Poetry, acrostics, etc. as tools for
    memorizing.
  • Good old fashion hard work!

9
Psalm 1191-8
  • Blessed are the undefiled who walk in the law of
    the Lord
  • Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who
seek Him with the whole heart
  • They also do no iniquity, they walk in His ways
  • You have commanded us to keep Your precepts
    diligently
  • Oh, that my ways were directed to keep your
    statutes
  • Then I would not be ashamed when I look into all
    Your commandments
  • I will praise You with uprightness of heart, when
    I learn your righteous commandments
  • I will keep your statutes, Oh do not forsake me
    utterly!

10
Psalm 1191-8 (acrostic)
  • All those who walk in the law of the Lord are
    blessed
  • All those who seek Him with the whole heart are
    blessed and keep His testimonies
  • Also, they do no iniquity as they walk in His
    ways
  • Almighty God, You have commanded us to keep Your
    precepts diligently
  • Ah! That my ways were directed to keep Your
    statutes
  • At last then I would not be ashamed when I look
    into all Your commandments
  • Again, I will praise You with uprightness of
heart, when I learn your righteous commandments
  • Ah! Do not forsake me utterly as I will keep your
    statutes!

11
Reflecting On the Necessary Attitude Toward Gods
Word
  • Your attitude will be reflected when you start
reading passages that have relevance in your
    life.
  • Going through yearly Bible readings help you come
across those pertinent passages that deal with
    your specific needs over time.
  • Taking passages you know and meditating upon it
will lead to an even greater love for it in your
    life.
  • Gods word with this type of attitude will
truly dwell richly in your life. Col. 316

12
Being Convicted By Gods Word
  • It is not enough to simply know Gods word, but
so many skip this very step.
  • Without Gods word our convictions will be
shallow at best and practically condemnatory.
    Jer. 1023
  • With Gods word (the incorruptible seed),
however, life is germinated within man and the
mighty works of God is effected through this new
    creature. 1 Pet. 122-25

13
Being Convicted By Gods Word
  • When Gods word richly dwells within us, we
cannot help but do the works He created for us.
    Eph. 210
  • We are moved like the great men and women the
    Bible reveals. Heb. 11
  • We are burdened when we dont live according to
Gods word and are convicted to return to Him in
    repentance.
  • It is at this point we can say we love Gods
word, are living sacrifices, and bring fruit to
    maturity!

14
Conclusion
  • So, do you despise reading, meditating, or
    studying Gods word?
  • If you dont love these things you certainly do
    not love Gods word.
  • Further, you cannot truly say you love our God
who gave His holy and divine words of life.
  • If such describes you beg God to forgive you
and open your heart to receiving, accepting, and
obeying His Word that brings salvation to your
    soul.
