The Top 10 Things You Need to Do as Your Clubs
Leader
4
1. Dont Major in Minor Things
  • Also known as
  • The Its just bad chicken rule, or
  • I.I.W.I. It Is What It Is

5
2. Always Err on the Side of Kindness
  • Never cut what can be untied
  • Say what you mean mean what you say - but don't
be mean saying it! - Debbe Gladstone, GFWC
    Membership Director

6
3. Know Your Material Cold
  • You will not be a respected leader if you arent
familiar with your own bylaws, for example.

7
4. Train Others to be Good Leaders
  • Good leaders dont just delegate, they take the
time to forge relationships and train those they
    work with.
  • People will not step up if they dont feel
qualified. It is up to you to ensure they are.

8
5. Ask for help when you need it.
  • And a corollary rule
  • Dont commit to something if you cant follow
through. Your integrity is all you have.

9
6. Be neutral.
  • Your job is to preside.
  • If you must comment on a discussion, clearly
indicate that you are speaking about your
    personal opinion, not as President.

10
7. Be Excited and SMILE.
  • How can you possibly motivate others if your own
    attitude isnt positive?
  • Know that you are being watched every second, and
people react to the way you act.

11
8. Stay on track.
  • Distribute agendas ahead of time so people know
what to expect, and include a timeline.
  • Frequently check your progress to make sure you
    dont run late.

12
9. Set Goals.
  • Nothing is more frustrating to club members than
not having a sense of the direction of your
    organization.
  • Doing this within the GFWC framework is helpful
    to stay on track.

13
10. Be Honest and Be Fair.
  • When you point a finger, three are pointing back
    at you.
  • Is this the hill you want to die on?
