Currin attends NKEAT meeting and presents
governor with desk plate created by metal
fabrication students

Patrick Currin, principal of Kentucky
Tech-Boone County and member of the Northern
Kentucky Education Action Team (NKEAT) recently
presented Governor Steven Beshear with a desk
plate that was made using high tech equipment.
Created by students in Kevin McKenney's metal
fabrication class, the symbolic project was
prepared
using a state of the art PlasaCAM machine. The
desk plate presentation provided an avenue for
Currin to show off some of the skills students
are learning in a Kentucky Tech program.
Currin as well as Kentucky Tech-J.D. Patton
Principal Ray Stanley were asked by their
respective local district superintendents to
become members of NKEAT. Both Currin and Stanley
are honored to be part of the team by
representing career and technical education and
accepted the invitations. They believe it is a
great opportunity for them to positively promote
Kentucky Tech throughout the Northern Kentucky

NKEAT's mission is "to challenge all Northern
Kentucky public school districts, colleges,
universities, and their constituents to support
legislation that benefits K-12 and post secondary
education in Northern Kentucky. "Ray and I
felt it was important to be at the table to
support our region and because people need to
have an understanding of who we are and what we
do," said Currin. "Kentucky Tech is unique in
that we are the first and only SACS-CASI
accredited technical school district in the
nation we are the only state operated school
district in Kentucky all of our programs are
assessed and our programs and teachers are
required to hold industry certifications when
available."
