I want to know how God created this world. I am
not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the
spectrum of this or that element. I want to know
His thoughts the rest are details
I have deep faith that the principle of the
universe will be beautiful and simple.

"In 1998 researchers at Stanford University's
Linear Accelerator Center successfully converted
energy into matter. This feat was accomplished by
using lasers and incredibly strong
electromagnetic fields to change ordinary light
into matter. The results of this experiment may
allow for the development of variety of
technological gadgets.
10
"Energy changes into matter when subatomic
particles collide at high speeds and create new,
heavier particles. Scientists accomplish this on
a limited scale using huge machines called
particle accelerators, in which subatomic
particles collide at fantastic speeds, creating
matter."

On the morning of August 6, 1945, the bomb was
dropped from 31,000 feet over Hiroshima. About 2
pounds of the 75 pounds of uranium-235 in the
bomb underwent fission, and less than one gram of
matter turned into energy. It was less than the
weight of one raisin in breakfast cereal, but in
TNT equivalents, the yield of the bomb was about
12,000 tons. It would have taken 2,000 B-29
airplanes to carry enough ordinary bombs to have
a similar effect.

The particle accelerator at CERN, in a 27-km
circular tunnel near Geneva. This is the biggest
of the "atom smashers" that blast matter into its
most fundamental fragments.
34
Here at CERN we can produce 50 millions
antiprotons in each cycle (about once a minute),
that allows us to make a few hundred antihydrogen
atoms. The number could be 10 times higher in
particular configurations of the accelerator.
This sounds a lot, but expressed in grams it is a
billionth of a gram in a year. If we count on the
production CERN has done over the last 10 years
(about 1 billionth of a gram), it has cost a few
hundred millions Swiss francs.

"My God, what have we done?" - Robert Lewis, the
co-pilot of the Enola Gay, the B-29 that dropped
the first atomic bomb.

The nations were angry and your wrath has
come. The time has come for judging the dead, and
for rewarding your servants the prophets and your
saints and those who reverence your name, both
small and great-- and for destroying those who
destroy the earth. Then God's temple in heaven
was opened, and within his temple was seen the
ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of
lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an
earthquake and a great hailstorm. (Rev
1118-19)
