7
What is learnt from WoMo
  • There is no universal standard to say what is
    good modular ontology
  • Structural, semantic, conservative extension
  • P-DL is unique on knowledge transitive reuse
  • P-DL and semantic importing by Jeff Pan et al can
    be merged
  • Partial reuse might be a concern reusing by name
or by axiom? Propagate all or selected axioms?

OWL 1.1
  • Syntactic sugar to make some commonly-stated
things easier to say DisjointUnion, valueNot
  • New Description Logic constructs SROIQ
  • qualified cardinality restrictions allowing
    constructions like ObjectMinCardinality(2
    friendOf hacker)
  • local reflexivity restrictions on non-complex
    properties only, allowing constructs like
    ObjectExistsSelf(likes) for narcissists
  • reflexive, irreflexive, symmetric, and
    anti-symmetric properties for non-complex
    properties only, allowing constructs like
    ReflexiveObjectProperty(knows) and

    rties(childOf spouseOf) and
  • property chain inclusion axioms allowing
    constructs like SubObjectPropertyOf(SubObjectPrope
rtyChain(owns part) owns), provided that no
    cyclic inclusions result.
