  • The Australian aborigines have very diverse
    communities in their substance, culture practices
    and technologies.
  • The word aboriginal was named by the English and
    it means earliest know indigenous

The population today is approx. 460,000 which
is about 2,27 of the total Australian
population. And are mostly located In the
interior of Australia with a large Concentration
in Queensland.
Australia is the largest Island with 7,617,930
km2 It also has one of the most Extreme
climates in the world

The first inhabitants in Australia were
Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders. Some
believed that the Aboriginals people migrated
from Asia to Australia between 60.000 50.000
years ago. Today due to this colonization many
aborigines suffer higher mortality rates thatn
other austrailians.

  • Black stands for the color of the people.
  • Yellow is for the sun, the life giving force
    uniting the land and the people.
  • Red is for the land and for the blood that has
    been shed since the European invasion.

Structures
  • Each tribe was headed by an elder and also
    included an extended family of aunts and uncles.
  • The elder made all the decisions for the tribe.
  • Labor was divided among gender lines with the
    males hunting and the women more gathering and
    tending to children.

  • They were hunter gathers and some of the things
    they hunted include kangaroos, wallabies,
    echidnas and possums.
  • They lived primarily near rivers or water ways
    which provided fish for the community.

Political Structures
  • They operate separate from the Australian
    government and they operate within each group.
  • Aboriginal people, particularly youths, are
    substantially more likely to be imprisoned than
    the general population. Rates of unemployment,
    health problems and poverty are higher than the
    general population. School retention rate and
    university attendance is lower.

Religion
  • The predominant religion of aboriginals is
    Christianity
  • There are various beliefs among different groups,
    but the dominant aboriginal view on life and
    religion is defined as Dreamtime.

Ceremonies
  • Singing and dancing is incorporated into their
    rituals along with many bright colors
  • One of the instruments used is called a
    didgeridoo. The instruments sounds and designs
    were derived from what they knew from nature.

  • They believe footprints have been left by every
    living creature before them, this is what they
    consider seed power which has been deposited on
    the earth
  • Dream time consists of three worlds The physical
    world, human world and the sacred world.
  • They also invented boomerangs
