Title: Finite Element Model of the Pereira Dos Quebradras Cable Stayed Bridge

1
Finite Element Model of the Pereira - Dos
QuebradrasCable Stayed Bridge
  • Presented by LuTisha Brown
  • Washington University REU
  • August 1st 2003

2
Overview
  • Structural Health Monitoring
  • Finite Element Models
  • Pereira Dos Quebradras Bridge
  • Progress
  • Work Remaining
  • Acknowledgments

3
Structural Health Monitoring
  • Seeks to monitor the levels of damage and
    deterioration within a structure
  • Accomplishes this by using sensors placed
    throughout the structure

4
Finite Element Models
  • A specialized model for finite analysis
  • Can accurately predict structural behavior
  • Used for simulations

5
Bridge Background
  • Connects Pereira and Dos Quebradas
  • On main Columbian route
  • Currently monitored with sensors

6
Towers
  • Created using information from SAP2000 model
  • Composed of nodes and three dimensional beam
    elements

7
Deck
  • Modeled as a central beam with lumped masses
hanging from the center of the deck
  • Created by dividing the deck into 25 C-shaped
    sections of similar mass
  • Calculated translational, rotational masses and
    stiffnesses

8
Deck
9
Deck
10
Cables
  • Connected to the deck and towers with rigid links
  • Cable element is modeled using a cable element

11
Bridge Model
  • Consists of 457 nodes, 191 beams, 72 cables, 230
    rigid links
  • Has 1140 degrees of freedom

12
Future Research
  • Find the natural frequencies
  • Calculate the mode shapes
  • Compare to actual bridge for accuracy
