The Program
  • Credits for graduation - 33
  • 12 credit required core,
  • Followed by two specialization tracks A B (15
    credits)
  • Track A - focuses on technical aspects of EC
    drawing from the fields of CS, IS, Eng.
  • Track B- focuses on the management, business, and
    legal aspects of EC drawing from the fields of
    economics, policy science, and law.

The Program (Contd)
  • An internship (6 credits) - theses/projects
  • May involve international placement. Students
    will typically work in teams of 3-4 on real-world
    projects in which at least one member of the team
    works as an intern in a research lab or
    private/public enterprise such as GSA and other
    federal government agencies.

  • 1. Two co-directors.
  • 2. An Industrial Advisory board
  • Representatives of companies and government
    agencies, to advise the co-directors.

  • 3. An executive committee
  • Composed of the program co-directors, as rotating
    chairs, and additional faculty representatives
    from UMBC and Rutgers.
  • Serves as an advisory body to the program
    co-directors on academic and administrative
    matters.
  • Subcommittees Admissions and curriculum
  • Members of the executive committee will be
    appointed to those sub-committees jointly by the
    co-directors.

Students
  • Talented undergraduates majoring in engineering,
    computer science, and business, and graduate
    students in MBA, Law, computer science, and
    engineering.
  • When the program is fully operational, the
    program will produce at least 15 graduates/yr

Educational Facilities at UMBC and Rutgers
  • UMBC
  • is connected to the University of Marylands
    Interactive Video Network (IVN), a two-way video
    system, which allows videoconferencing with
    virtually all campuses as well as several other
    laboratory and commercial sites.

  • Rutgers
  • Interactive TV is available through ISDN and
    through the NJ IDLS (Interactive Distance
    Learning System). The campus has three ITV
    classrooms. These classrooms currently deliver
    various courses to each site and also to other
    facilities throughout the state.
