Title: Reale Project Reliable Architectures for Adaptive and Mobile eLearning Applications

1
Real-e ProjectReliable Architectures for
Adaptive and Mobile e-Learning Applications
  • Project Description

Andreea Monnat LASSY Seminar January 25, 2004
2
Main Objective
  • Propose an architectural model for reliable,
adaptive and mobile e-learning applications using
    the mobile agents paradigm.

3
Background
  • Mobile agent Software abstractions that can
migrate across the network representing users in
    various tasks.
  • Characteristics of a mobile agent
  • Use of active objects (objects that move from
place to place and at the destination they can
obtain a thread of control automatically)
  • Interactions with various environments to find
    out information
  • Ability to obtain information or performs actions
    on behalf of the sender
  • Ability to report the works results to the
    requesting person
  • Ability to make decisions on behalf of the person
    it represents.

4
From Client-Server to Mobile Agents
  • Scalability issues for many users
  • Bandwidth/latency code shipping versus data
    shipping
  • solution could be the use of mobile agents
  • All the evaluation engine information can be
transferred in one step gt reduces network
    communications
  • User has access to all required information
    instantly
  • User assessment can be performed on the clients
    computer

5
Scenarios for Using MA
  • a piece of software could play for example the
    role of a
  • Monitor Agent creating a user profile (areas
of interest, learning speed, learning techniques)
  • or a Tattletale Agent user progress tracking

6
Research Framework
Capturing privacy and security requirements for
mobile LMS
Formal verification of dependability properties
of the reference architecture
7
Discussion
  • Use of FIDJI methodology?
  • strong mobility or weak mobility?
  • Analysis model can UML model agent mobility?
  • Agent UML? Extensions?
  • Security is still the main issue in MAS. Which is
the more adequate MAS for our purposes?
  • A solution could be the integration of the mobile
agents within the Jini (EJB?) framework.
  • The agents have to be FIPA compliant.
  • Have the agents to be also SCORM compliant? Do we
    need a specific LMS?
  • The JADE agent middleware seems to be an adequate
    MA platform for our purposes.
  • Can JADE mobile agents be integrated within Jini?

8
Work Packages
  • WP0
  • organize adequate collaborations on LMS and
    mobile agents.
  • Provide SoA for LMS and MAS.
  • WP1
  • Decision on the project methodology.
  • Provide a case study.
  • Define the requirements document
  • WP3
  • Design modeling based on the chosen methodology
  • WP4
  • Partially formal verification of systems
properties (using HOPi?, Mobility Workbench? PN?)
