Where are the blue crabs?

Intro

• During this past week, we have learned about the
  decreasing numbers of the blue crabs in the
  Chesapeake Bay. Throughout this presentation we
  will talk about blue crabs and over fishing.
• Our Hypothesis IF fishermen catch too many
  crabs, THEN they are interfering with
  reproduction.
• So be looking forward to learning more about Blue
  Crabs.

Overfishing

• Fishermen should establish rules on fishing for
  the blue crabs. The cause and effect for over
  fishing is that when fishermen overfish on one
  season, the next season there will be less blue
  crabs.
• If fishermen overfish on blue crabs sooner or
  later they will become extinct.

Fishing game

• We played a fishing game that taught us about
  overfishing. When playing the game we saw that we
  were overfishing and tried to establish rules to
  control the overfishing issue.
• Our rules were you could only catch two high
  valued fish. Turns out that our rules didnt work
  because we worried so much about the high value
  fish and ended up catching all the low valued
  fish. Since we could only catch two high valued
  fish per round and the population kept doubling
  our fish business wasnt working out.

Location of Fisheries

• The picture in the next slide is a map of the
  Chesapeake Bay and the location of areas where
  you cant fish for crabs. In the purple is the
  space where you cant fish for blue crabs.
  Everywhere else is legal.

Conclusion

• As we have shown in this presentation the blue
  crabs are being overfished. The crabs are in need
  of need of help. You are one of the people who
  can help solve this problem. Throughout this
