National Day of Prayer GKCCCC5/3/2007
  • "If my people, who are called by my name, will
humble themselves and pray and seek my face and
turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear
from heaven and will forgive their sin and will
heal their land." II Chronicles 714 (NIV)

Vision and Values
  • In accordance with Biblical truth, the National
Day of Prayer Task Force seeks to
  • Foster unity within the Christian Church
  • Protect America's Constitutional Freedoms to
gather, worship, pray and speak freely.
  • Publicize and preserve America's Christian
    heritage
  • Encourage and emphasize prayer, regardless of
    current issues and positions
  • Respect all people, regardless of denomination or
    creed
  • Be wise stewards of God's resources and provision
  • Glorify the Lord in word and deed

3
  • Foundations for Faith and FreedomFrancis A.
    Schaeffer

4
John Witherspoon
  • John Witherspoon, a Presbyterian minister and
president of what is now Princeton University,
was the only pastor to sign the Declaration of
Independence. He linked the Christian thinking
represented by the College of New Jersey (now
Princeton University) with the work he did both
on the Declaration of Independence and on
countless very important committees in the
    founding of the country.

5
In God we trust.
  • In God we trust. -. The Founding Fathers of the
United States publicly recognized that law could
be king because there was a Law Giver, a Person
    to give the inalienable rights.

6
Foundations for Faith and Freedom
  • Most people do not realize that there was a paid
chaplain in Congress even before the
Revolutionary War ended. Also we find that prior
to the founding of the national congress all the
early provincial congresses in all thirteen
colonies always opened with prayer. And from the
very beginning, prayer opened the national
    congress.

7
The first Thanksgiving Day
  • As soon as the war was over they called the first
Thanksgiving Day. Do you realize that the first
Thanksgiving Day to thank God in this country was
called immediately by the Congress at the end of
the war? Witherspoons sermon on that day shows
their perspective A republic once equally
poised must either preserve its virtue or lose
    its liberty.

8
The First Amendment
  • When the First Amendment was passed it only had
two purposes. The first purpose was that there
would be no established, national church for the
united thirteen states. To say it another way
There would be no Church of the United States.
    James Madison (1751-1836) clearly articulated
this concept of separation when explaining the
First Amendments protection of religious liberty.

9
The First Amendment
  • The second purpose of the First Amendment was the
very opposite from what is being made of it
today. It states expressly that government should
not impede or interfere with the free practice of
    religion.

10
The separation of church and state in America
  • Today the separation of church and state in
America is used to silence the church. When
Christians speak out on issues, the hue and cry
from the humanist state and media is that
Christians, and all religions, are prohibited
from speaking since there is a separation of
    church and state.

11
The First Sunday Worship at New Haven
12
Francis A. Shaeffer
  • The humanistic, secularistic thinkers have merely
    carried their
  • philosophy to its logical end. They have remained
    true to their
  • worldview in both words and actions while,
    unfortunately, Christians
  • have equivocated...Christians have largely shut
    up their spirituality
  • into a small corner of lifeSunday church or
    their Bible studies
  • instead of realizing that the Lordship of Christ
    is to permeate the
  • whole spectrum of me. They have coasted along
    complacently, often
  • serving up such dogmas as you cant mix religion
    and politics, or
  • you cant legislate morality, or we just need
    to pray and witness to
  • peoplewhen what they really meant was we just
    dont want to be
  • disturbed. They were content in their comfort
    zone.

13
  • Loss of Faith in America
  • Jim Nelson Black

14
The Enlightenment
  • The seeds of rebellion that fell on European soil
during the Enlightenment blossomed in America
    during the 1960s.
  • The Hippies sought liberation from rules of
every kind and spent their days in search of
sex, drugs, and rock and roll. In both cases
the provocation and source of rebellion was the
same rejection of the God of the Bible.

15
Forest Fires and Floods
  • The celebration of vulgarity and vice among a
small bands of dissidents in the sixties has
spread throughout the nation. It has been adopted
by the music industry and the popular media as
    their preferred mode of behavior.
  • Just as forest fires and floods have changed the
physical landscape in recent years, the storm of
immorality is sweeping the land and changing the
    moral horizon for our society.

16
The moral bankruptcy of America
  • The moral bankruptcy of America over the past
thirty years has been our national shame. It has
made us a disgrace in the eyes of the world.
  • But for a growing number, the enlightenment view
of reality has become their accepted worldview.
For them, moral consensus no longer depends on
Christian truths, but on secular values.

17
Jingoism
  • Racism, sexism, tribalism, and social
disintegration have actually been encouraged in
the name of diversity, while pride of country is
attacked as jingoism. Added to this, the
justice system, as we have seen, is anything but
just. Too often, the courts reward offenders and
    punish the victims of crime.

18
Century of seduction
  • D. James Kennedy has called the twentieth century
a century of seduction. For the past forty
years, he says, the American people have been
seduced by a whole series of siren singers who
have led them down the primrose path, and the
primary agents of this seduction have been the
perversion of truth, the debasement of sexuality,
and the assault on the sanctity of life.

19
Hide our lamps under a bushel
  • To allow ourselves to be silenced by the humanist
worldview would be to abdicate our responsibility
before God. It would be to hide our lamps under a
bushel, when we have the Light of the world in
    our hearts.

20
  • AMERICA, RETURN TO GOD!

21
Gods judgment on sexual perversion
  • Throughout Scripture, Gods judgment on sexual
perversion is made strikingly clear. The New
Testament says, "Do not be deceived. Neither
fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor
homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor
covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor
extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God (1
    Corinthians 69, 10).
  • As evidence, consider that more than 65 million
Americans today are infected with sexually
    transmitted diseases (STDs), including Herpes,
Hepatitis B, AIDS, and more than a dozen
othersmost of which have no known cures.

22
American Holocaust
  • The horror that has been unleashed on America
(and in the world) in the name of a womans
right to choose is nothing less than the
American Holocaust. In Germany, the Nazis
killed more than six million Jews, Poles,
Christians, and other undesirables during the
Second World War. In America, 41 million innocent
    children have been slaughtered.

23
Repentance of Nineveh
  • Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second
time Go to the great city of Nineveh and
proclaim to it the message I give you. Jonah
obeyed the word of the Lord and went to Nineveh.
Now Nineveh was a very important city a visit
required three days. On the first day, Jonah
started into the city. He proclaimed Forty more
days and Nineveh will be overturned. The
Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and
all of them, from the greatest to the least, put
on sackcloth. When the news reached the king of
Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his
royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and
sat down in the dust. Then he issued a
proclamation in Nineveh By the decree of the
king and his nobles Do not let any man or beast,
herd or flock, taste anything do not let them
eat or drink. But let man and beast be covered
with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on
God. Let them give up their evil ways, and their
violence. Who knows? God may yet relent and with
compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we
will not perish. When God saw what they did and
how they turned from their evil ways, he had
compassion and did not bring upon them the
destruction he had threatened. ? Jonah 31 10

pornography and called it freedom of expression
  • We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our
    forefathers and called it enlightenment.
  • Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today
cleanse us from every sin and set us free.
  • Guide and bless these men and women who have been
