Situation with regards to presence of Iodine in
Kosovo

• Soil tests in Kosovo show the low concentration
  of Iodine in many Kosovo regions .
• Endemic regions with Iodine deficiency are
• Decan, Peja and Gjakova ( west part of Kosova
  )
• Salts consumed in Kosovo are imported mainly from
  Montenegro , Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina ,
  Greece , Ukraine.

• Border Inspectors have unique form for
  registration of samples collected from import
• Samples are codified with unique Identification
  code
• Dispatched to the laboratory by border Inspector
  itself where Iodine testing is carried out

• Lack of rapid testing equipment and kits at the
  border.
• Inland conditions of storage and retail improper
• Lack of awareness and Information for consumers
  about Iodine deficiency and its consequences for
  human health
