Classroom rules
  • Classroom rules are posted on the web page and
    were created with the help of the students.
  • It is very important to remind students to be
    ready for class, bring all their materials
    pencil, eraser, notebook, workbook and folder.

Homework policy and expectations. 5th-8th
grade.
  • Homework will be assigned most nights of the
    week, unless there is a major holiday or event
    that evening. In addition to the written work, it
    is strongly advised the students review notes
    each day if written was not assigned, the
    student STILL has homework! is very important to
    review vocab and verbs EVERYDAY for at least 10
    (ten) minutes.
  • Assignments will be posted daily on the website.I
    have also added some links to websites that are
    great for practicing skills and that contain
    cultural information or games, just click on
    Spanish resources.
  • Students should study a little every night and
    not wait to cram the night before tests and
    quizzes.
  • Homework is graded for points, completion or for
    participation points.
  • It the students responsibility to find out the
    homework assignment following an absence by
    checking the web page, asking a classmate or e
    mailing me. Students will have 2 days to make up
    absent work.
  • If a merit pass is accepted, the assignment is
    due the following day.

Grading policy
  • Assessment
  • All assessments will be graded as homework, class
    work or tests each being EQUALLY weighted. ALL
    tests must be signed regardless of the grade.
    Participation in class is a very important
    component of the grade.
  • Extra Credit
  • There are many opportunities for extra credit in
    class. However, I will not give extra credit when
    the student it is not doing his/her regular class
    work. The web site contains information about
    extra credit opportunities.
  • 8th Grade ONLY students will receive a ZERO for
    any assignment(s) not submitted by due date.

Tutoring
  • Getting Help Tutoring is available at lunch and
    recess and schedule is posted on web page. It is
    very important to remind student not to wait
    until it is too late. Get help as soon as you
    feel confused.
  • Friends who have taken Spanish are also a great
    resource for help.
  • The Spanish resources link on web page has
    interesting links to practice pronunciation,
    spelling and review.

Curriculum overview, projects and activities
  • The Spanish Upper School program at HTS will
    develop basic understanding of the Spanish
    language and culture of the Spanish speaking
    countries. The four principles aspects in
    communication speaking, listening, reading and
    writing will be exercised at all times while
    studying grammar structures and vocabulary.
    Students will have the opportunity to participate
    in many activities and projects throughout the
    school year which will enhance their learning
    experience. Projects may involve research,
    writing, presentations and activities such as
    preparing traditional foods.
