Voltage Waveforms I
  • Three common types of voltage waveform
  • DC or constant value voltage.
  • Step voltage what happens when a DC power
    supply is turned on.
  • Clock or digital voltage waveform which is
typical of a signal found in a PC or embedded
    system.

Voltage Waveforms II
Real Waveforms are usually more complex The
exponential waveforms shown in this slide are
typical of circuits which have capacitance or
inductance in addition to resistance. Capacitors
can be used to store energy or to filter
signals Inductors are used to build power
supplies and generate RF signals.

Joules Law, Energy Power

(1)
(2)
The work per unit charge is equal to the stored
energy which in an Electronic circuit is the
Electrical Voltage.
The charge flow per unit time is equivalent to
the current.

Recall that Ohms Law applies to AC as well as DC
currents and voltages.
