THE GRANDPARENT RESOURCE CENTER

• The NYC Dept. for the Agings Grandparent
  Resource Center was established in 1994 in
  response to the overwhelming phenomenon of
  grandparents raising grandchildren.
• The 2000 Census reported that there were 2.4
  Million grandparents in the U.S. raising
  grandchildren.

• Training DOE staff to raise awareness of
  grandparent issues
• Parent Coordinators assist in gathering
  grandparents identified as underserved
• An outreach worker was hired to provide workshop
  and presentations in schools to grandparents
  raising grandchildren
• Bridging generation gaps between grandparents and
  the children they are raising
