  • Ramsey Street Middle School is a Redirection
    Program designed to redirect student behavior
    through positive programs geared towards building
    self-esteem, responsibility, leadership,
    community service and academics.
  • Students must meet the following four goals to be
    recommended for return to home-schools
  • Behavior
  • Attendance
  • Academics
  • Attitude

ORIENTATION PROCESS
  • Appointments made upon approval from the Student
    Assignment Office for In-Take Process
  • In-Take with parent and student
  • Tuesday
  • Thursday

  • Transition-In Class 2 days
  • Day 1
  • Diagnostic Testing
  • STAR Math/Reading Assessments
  • Prescriptive Math/Reading Assessments (based on
    Benchmark Objectives)
  • Learning Styles Inventories
  • For Differentiate Instruction (CSR focus)
  • Day 2
  • Needs Assessment Screening
  • Conflict Resolution 4. H.O.P.E. Program
  • Grief/Trauma/Loss 5. Remediation
  • Substance Abuse

EXITING PROCEDURES
  • Once students have met the following requirements
    they can be referred back to the home-school
  • Minimum 45 days up to 365 days assignment to RSMS
  • Successfully met four goals (behavior, academics,
    attendance, attitude)
  • Parent completion of volunteer hours
  • Teachers complete goal referral form showing met
    and unmet goals with explanations
  • Upon approval of RSMS and Home-school Principals,
    students are given a Transition Out
    appointment time (home-school representatives are
    invited to attend this meeting)
  • The Transition Out process consists of
    discussions of student expectations upon return
    to home-schools.

  • Future Seekers Partnership with FTCC for 8th
    grade students
  • Potpourri Fridays Flexible Block Schedule 90
    minute block schedule M-Th
  • Reading Lab Achieve Now for students with 10
    deficits on EOG
  • ISS Student Stability in the Classroom as an
    alternative to out of school suspension
  • Volunteer Program Purpose is to parents and
    community partners in the school program
    1600-2400 hours

OTHER INITIATIVES
  • CSR As a result of comprehensive school reform,
    intensive professional development focused on the
    Effective Schools Model, Differentiated
    Instruction, 7 Habits of High Effective People,
    Framework of Poverty, Elements of Instruction,
    Technology and Data Analysis Has Been
    Incorporated Into the School Program.
  • GOOD to GREAT- In conjunction with the county
    focus of moving from Good to Great, emphasis
    have been placed on Creating Great Classrooms
    and Literacy both of which integrate easily
    into the CSR initiative.

  • CSR Effective Schools Model is the driving
    force of comprehensive school reform has
    contributed to changes in school organization,
    operation, and instructional practices
  • Identified as Model Alternative School by NC
    Center for Non-Violence in meeting criteria of
    an effective ALP setting.
  • Recognized by DPI as having Successful
    Practices for Comprehensive School Reform
    presented program at conference 2003-2004
  • Identified for 5 consecutive years as a safe
    school based on accident prevention
  • Recognized Nationally as a Service Learning
    Leader School
  • Continuous increases in student proficiency and
    growth
  • Continuous progress in serving adjudicated
    students
  • 79 decrease in repeat referrals
  • 5 increase in academic performance
  • 52 decrease in suspensions
  • Decrease in long-term suspensions
  • Parent Community Volunteer Hours exceed 1600
    per year
