What not to do before class
  • eat a heavy meal
  • drink alcohol
  • drink a strong diuretic (coffee, tea, cola)

  • neatness doesnt count, but clarity does!
  • leave a lot of blank space

  • IDENTIFY - Identify why what the instructor is
    saying is important to you.
  • SET UP - Set up your situation to maximize the
    possibility of hearing and staying in touch with
    the lecture.
  • TUNE IN - Learn to increase your attention span
    by timing just how long you can last before you
    think of something else.
  • EXAMINE - Examine the context to determine the
    main points.
  • NOTES - Taking notes while you listen will
    improve your concentration.

  • 9. Dont tape your lectures (unless necessary).
    It just postpones the real work. Do it right the
    first-time.
  • 8. Review notes immediately after class. Add as
    much material to your notes as you can remember.
  • 7. Make notes in your own words. Use the
    instructors exact words sparingly and only when
    essential.
  • 6. Listen actively. Constantly question,
    conclude, anticipate what the instructor is going
    to say.
