CONFERENCE VENUE The Conference will be held at
the campus of Karlstad University
(http//www.kau.se/) in Sweden. We are delighted
to invite you to the beautiful Scandinavian
country of Sweden, the home of nine million
people. Karlstad is situated in mid-western
Sweden on top of Lake Vänern, one of Europes
largest freshwater lakes. Karls
tad is situated in between Stockholm, the capital
city of Sweden and Oslo, the capital city of
Norway. The relatively close distance and easy
access to Gothenburg, Swedens second largest
city and Copenhagen in Denmark is also important.
10
The County of Värmland, in which Karlstad is
situated, is well known for several authors,
among others Gustaf Fröding and Selma Lagerlöf,
and also many athletics. Today, ice hockey is a
major sport in Karlstad, being the address of
Färjestads BK, one of the most successful teams
in the country. When visiting Karlstad, you
always feel the closeness to water. Besides being
situated by a lake, River Klarälven also flows
through the centre of Karlstad. The longest stone
arch bridge in Sweden, built more than 200 years
ago and still in use, crosses the river. The
symbol of the university, and also of Karlstad
municipality, is the sun. The inhabitants of
Karlstad are proud to have more than 1 800 sunny
hours a year, an amount which is in the top
positions of the Swedish sun hours league.
