Purpose
  • Ensure academic and social success for students
    participating in the Open Choice (OC) program in
    the Hartford region

Funding
  • Provided in addition to the 2500 per pupil Open
    Choice grant
  • Not competitive- awarded on a formula basis
  • To access funds, must submit an application
    describing how the district plans to use the
    grant to promote student success

Funding
  • Two parts to the formula
  • Per Pupil Award Based on October 1, 2008
    enrollment plus January 1, 2009 adjustments.
  • 800 per student for K 5 students
  • 1250 per student for 6 12 students
  • Tiered Incentive Based on October 1, 2009
    enrollment.
  • 50,000 if OC enrollment is gt2 and lt2.5
  • 75,000 if OC enrollment is gt 2.5 and lt3
  • 115,000 if OC enrollment is gt 3

  • Availability of funds
  • Per Pupil Award To be awarded upon approval of
    State budget and approval of application
  • Tiered Incentive To be awarded by December 1,
    2009, based on October 1, 2009 enrollment
  • District should apply for funds based on entire
    amount the district expects to be eligible for in
    2009-10.

  • See application for a list of allowable
    activities and allowable costs
  • e.g. after school tutoring
  • Indirect costs are not allowable
  • Activities and costs not listed may be
    approvable. Contact the program manager or your
    grant contact for clarification.

Allowable costs
  • Supplement, not supplant
  • Funds should be used to support students in need
    of assistance. Open Choice students and/or
    families should be among those served, but not
    the only recipients of service.
  • Both programmatic and budget revisions must be
    pre-approved by your grant contact.

  • If intending to fund multiple strategies, provide
    a page for each strategy proposed
  • Indicated if strategy is district wide or
    school-based
  • Describe need and how need was identified

    identified need(s). Include
  • Research base or other evidence of effectiveness
  • Timeline for implementation
  • Population to be served
  • Intended outcome
  • Measuring progress toward the outcome
