Transition
  • Qld Health (Long Stay Facilities) refer
    individuals to DSQ
  • DSQ assist individuals with housing referrals and
    link with their chosen NGO to provide disability
    support
  • NGO assist individuals to transition from long
    stay facilities into the community

March 2000 Forum
  • Based on the outcomes of the forum some
    directions were determined
  • To increase consumer involvement and recognising
    the need for consumers to have the skills and
    support to express their views about the services
    they receive.
  • To increase independent advocacy and a need to
    develop a shared understanding with the existing
    advocacy network about how to best meet the
    advocacy needs of consumers.

Consumer Participation Project
  • Evolved out of the March 2000 Forum
  • Purpose -
  • (i) Strengthen the consumer voice within the
  • psychiatric disability support context.
  • (ii) Assist service providers to enable
    individuals to have the opportunities to increase
    participation within the support service context
    and more broadly in the community.
  • As the project progressed
  • (iii) To better define the concept so that it is
    understood
  • by consumers and service providers.
