  • 2 Samuel 9
  • David asked, "Is there anyone still left of the
house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for
Jonathan's sake?" Now there was a servant of
Saul's household named Ziba. They summoned him to
appear before David, and the king said to him,
"Are you Ziba?" "At your service," he replied.
The king asked, "Is there no one still left of
the house of Saul to whom I can show God's
kindness?" Ziba answered the king, "There is
still a son of Jonathan he is lame in both
    feet."

4
  • 4 "Where is he?" the king asked. Ziba answered,
"He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo
Debar." So King David had him brought from Lo
Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel.
When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of
Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him
honor. David said, "Mephibosheth!" "At your
    service," he replied.

5
  • "Don't be afraid," David said to him, "for I will
surely show you kindness for the sake of your
father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the
land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and
you will always eat at my table." Mephibosheth
bowed down and said, "What is your servant, that
you should notice a dead dog like me?"

6
  • Then the king summoned Ziba, Saul's steward, and
said to him, "I have given your master's grandson
everything that belonged to Saul and his family.
You and your sons and your servants are to farm
the land for him and bring in the crops, so that
your master's grandson may be provided for. And
Mephibosheth, grandson of your master, will
always eat at my table." (Now Ziba had fifteen
    sons and twenty servants.)

7
  • Then Ziba said to the king, "Your servant will do
whatever my lord the king commands his servant to
do." So Mephibosheth ate at David's table like
one of the king's sons. Mephibosheth had a young
son named Mika, and all the members of Ziba's
household were servants of Mephibosheth. And
Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he
always ate at the king's table he was lame in
    both feet.

  • Ephesians 2
  • As for you, you were dead in your transgressions
and sins, in which you used to live when you
followed the ways of this world and of the ruler
of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now
at work in those who are disobedient. All of us
also lived among them at one time, gratifying the
cravings of our sinful nature and following its
desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by
nature deserving of wrath. But because of his
great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
made us alive with Christ even when we were dead
in transgressionsit is by grace you have been
    saved.

9
  • And God raised us up with Christ and seated us
with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
in order that in the coming ages he might show
the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed
in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is
by grace you have been saved, through faithand
this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of
God not by works, so that no one can boast. For
we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus
to do good works, which God prepared in advance
    for us to do.

10
1. Saved by Grace
  • "Don't be afraid," David said to him, "for I will
surely show you kindness for the sake of your
    father Jonathan.
  • Romans 515 But the gift is not like the
trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of
the one man, how much more did God's grace and
the gift that came by the grace of the one man,
Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!

11
  • Galatians 318 For if the inheritance depends on
the law, then it no longer depends on the
promise but God in his grace gave it to Abraham
    through a promise.
  • Ephesians 16 To the praise of his glorious
grace, which he has freely given us in the One he
loves. In him we have redemption through his
blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance
with the riches of God's grace

12
2. Gift of God. Boasting?
  • 1 Corinthians 1 26 Brothers and sisters, think
of what you were when you were called. Not many
of you were wise by human standards not many
were influential not many were of noble birth.
But God chose the foolish things of the world to
shame the wise God chose the weak things of the
world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly
things of this world and the despised thingsand
the things that are notto nullify the things
that are, so that no one may boast before him. It
is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus,
who has become for us wisdom from Godthat is,
    our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
Therefore, as it is written "Let those who boast
    boast in the Lord."

13
  • Galatians 54
  • You who are trying to be justified by the law
have been alienated from Christ you have fallen
    away from grace.

14
3. Prepared in advance
  • Ephesians 210 For we are Gods workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which
God prepared in advance for us to do.
  • 1 Corinthians 1510 But by the grace of God I
am what I am, and his grace to me was not without
effect. No, I worked harder than all of themyet
not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

15
  • Ephesians 37 I became a servant of this gospel
by the gift of God's grace given me through the
    working of his power.
  • Ephesians 38 Although I am less than the least
of all the Lord's people, this grace was given
me to preach to the Gentiles the boundless
    riches of Christ.
