How to Compact your data fileL4U Platinum Single

• Compacting eliminates redundant spaces between
  data segments and allows the program to run more
  efficiently
• Compacting should be done at least twice per
  year, and after any major additions or deletions
  of items or clients.

• You should run a backup first
• Choose File-Preferences
• Click the Basic tab

• Click Backup Now

• Run utilities from the File menu

• Click Check and Fix
• Select Yes
• Assuming it reports no errors, we can proceed
  to the next step

• To verify which data file is currently in use
  Select Help-About L4u

• Select the Data File Information tab

• Note the name of the active data file

• Quit L4U

• Run L4U Tools (Start-Programs-L4U Platinum-Single
  User-Advance-L4U Tools)
• Select the structure file, from the drop down
  select the .4dc option

• The file should be located in c\program
  Files\L4U Platinum\single\Database\L4UPlatinum.4dc
  
• Click Open

• Login as administrator when prompted

• Select the Maintain tab

• Click on Compact

• Assign a name for the new compacted data file
• File should be placed in Program Files\L4U
  Platinum\Single

• Once you save the new file name the compact
  process will start

• It will return to the above screen when the
  compact is complete
• Click quit

Original data files

• You should now see two sets of files in the
  program directory
• Move the original files (both the .4dd and .4dr
  files) out of the program directory to the
  desktop (or into the backup directory!) BEFORE
  restarting L4U
• After moving the original data files, start L4U
• If L4U does not automatically find the new data
  file, it will prompt you to select it. Choose the
  new compacted .4dd file.
