Methods
Flow, ml/sec
14 months old, 14 ml sec
2002 prospective study in 42 infants with
distal hypospadias flowmetry (ultrasound
method Transonic) before, and 3 to 9 months
after TIP (Wolffenbuttel KP et al, J Urol
2006176 1733-7) 2008 Present study flowmetry
in 21/42 boys (mean age 6.5 yrs) 5.5 years
postoperatively long term flow
3
Results
18/21 boys asymptomatic 38 of flows (vs. 50
of short- term) intermittent
Qmax 13.25.7 ml/s
(short term 6.62.8 and 7.21.8 ml/s) 19
of flows below 5th percentile (vs 76 in short
term) 71 between 5th and 50th and 10
above 50th percentile
Urine flow-rate 67 months postop
4
Conclusions
Percentage of abnormal low flow rates (lt5th
perc) diminished from 76 (short-term) to 19
(long-term) Most long-term flow rates (71)
still in low- normal range (only 10 above 50th
perc) Additional procedures (urethral
calibration) in asymptomatic boys are only
required when consecutive flow rates are too low
(lt5th perc) or decreasing
