A WebQuest on Roman Architecture and Literature

Introduction
Roman architecture (which peaked around 30 A.D.)
is reflected in Roman literature, especially
Senecas essay, Scipios Villa. This WebQuest
will show the connection between Roman
architecture and literature, and give two
participants an opportunity to design their own
Roman villa based on facts found on the Internet.
This process will teach the students not only the
type of architecture that the Romans had, but
also the writing style that acclaimed authors
used.

Task
The two students will design and describe their
own Roman villa they will be map out their
villa, based on the drawings and maps from their
research, and they will write a one-page
description of the villa, as if the reader were
walking through it, using rhetorical and literary
techniques mirroring those in Senecas Scipios
Villa.

Conclusion
Upon completing the WebQuest, both the architect
and the writer will have gained a better
understanding of what the Roman villas were like
and the literary techniques used by the greatest
Roman authors, specifically Seneca. This
understanding will help with future analysis of
other architecture and other literature.
