Title: Wind

1
Wind
  • The movement of air from areas of high pressure
    to low pressure.

2
Cyclones
  • Storm that spirals inward (counter-clockwise) to
    a low-pressure center.

3
Anticyclones
  • Storm that spirals outward (clockwise) from a
    high-pressure center.

4
Global Winds
  • More solar radiation at equator creates low
    pressure. This air rises.
  • Less solar radiation at the poles creates high
    pressure. This air falls.
  • Creates a general movement from N to S in
    Northern hemisphere.

5
Coriolis Effect
  • Deflection of wind and ocean currents caused by
    the earths rotation.

6
Global Winds
  • Trade Winds
  • Westerlies
  • Polar Easterlies

7
Breezes
  • Land Breeze
  • When wind moves from high pressure (over land) to
    low pressure (over water).
  • Usually occurs at night.
  • Sea/Lake Breeze
  • When wind moves from high pressure (over water)
    to low pressure (over land).
  • Usually occurs during the day.
