What is EduBase ?

• Web enabled database of educational
  establishments in England (and schools in Wales)
• Maintained and Independent Schools FE colleges
  and HE establishments
• Aim to share basic information improve quality
  and reduce burdens
• Maintained by contractor, e-gif standards

What is it used for?

• As an information system in its own right
• DfES staff performance tables mailing sample
  frame schools general public, etc.
• As a feeder system for other systems
• QCA Ofsted, NCSL,TTA, LSC, BECTA Prolog, ONS
  TeacherNet and other DfES systems

• Establishment names and reference numbers

Why These Fields?

• Identify the School
• Identify the Head
• Identify a means of contact
• Confirmation of school status (Open/Proposed to
  Open/Open, but proposed to Close/Closed)
• Confirmation of change dates
• Confirm S2S E-mail addresses.

Data to You

• Each LEA to have access to full dataset via
  secure download (URL, Username and Password to be
  issued in March)
• Download site can be given to as many agreed LEA
  Officers as required, who can update their
  records as necessary
• Software houses to have access to same download
  site (once User Agreement is in place)
• LEAs to filter this data for their own schools
  for March checking exercise

• By Excel spreadsheet bulk upload
• URN

• Only need to submit changes to the data, not a
  complete list!
• Data to be returned by end of May

EduBase Action

• Data from LEAs will be collated and, where
  necessary, checked with the Data Owners.
• Data will then be loaded to the system by the end
  of June.
• The updated data will be available on the
  download site the following day.
