6
Introduction
  • The SXDS (J0218-05) is the deepest of all the
    square degree-sized surveys.
  • 133 hours with Subaru/Suprime-Cam at BVRiz
  • RAB26.9 (5s, ?2)
  • 300 nights with UKIRT/WFCAM (UKIDSS UDS) at JHK
  • KAB25.0 (5s, point source)
  • 400 ksec with XMM-Newton
  • 10-18 W m-2 (0.5-2 keV)
  • 60 hours with VLA (BC arrays) at 1.4 GHz
  • 60-100µJy/beam (5s)

7
Optical imaging
  • Optical data were taken with Suprime-Cam in
    2002-2005.
  • The SXDF covers five 3427 fields.

0.81 psf FWHM
5s f2, AB
B27.5 V27.2 R26.9 i26.7 z25.7
1.3o
133 hours on-sky
8
Near-infrared imaging
  • The UKIDSS Ultra Deep Survey (UDS) covers 0.77
deg2 (0.63 deg2 overlap with optical data) to
    planned depths of J25.9, H25.3, K25.0 (5s,
    point source).

9
X-ray imaging
  • The SXDF was observed for 400ksec as part of the
GTO programme from 2000 Aug 1-2003 Jan 7.
  • Seven adjacent pointings were made.

10
Radio imaging
  • Radio observations were taken with the VLA in B
    and C arrays (5 beam).
  • 14 1.4-GHz fields were mosaicked.

11
Galaxy evolution to z1
  • Yamada et al. (2005) identify old
    passively-evolving galaxies (OPEGs) from the
    optical SXDF data.
  • The LF at z1 can be compared with the local LF
    for early-type galaxies.
  • The bright end is already in place at z1 if
    zfgt3.

12
Galaxy evolution beyond z1
  • Cirasuolo et al. (2006) use WFCAM and IRAC data
to obtain reliable photo-zs at zgt1.
  • lack of density evolution in the red galaxies to
    z1
  • blue galaxies dominate the bright end of the LF
    at zgt1
  • colour bimodality becomes weaker with redshift

See Michele's poster
13
Galaxy clusters
  • van Breukelen et al. (2006) use Voronoi
    tesselation and friends-of-friends analysis on
    the galaxies P(z) distribution.
  • 13 groups/clusters have been identified with
    zphotgt0.6.
  • L2-10keV1036W,
  • M1014M

See Caroline's poster
14
LSS at high redshift
  • The SXDF contains 16,920 B-drop Lyman Break
    Galaxies (LBGs) at z4.
  • Many of these LBGs have close companions.
  • 1385 pairs with 2lt??lt5

15
LSS at high redshift
  • There is a clear change in the slope of w(?) at
    ?5200kpc.
  • This is interpreted as the transition between
    inter- and intra-halo clustering.
  • The 200kpc size for LBG haloes corresponds to a
    mass of 1012M.

Ouchi et al. (2006)
16
Radio source counts
Change in slope at 0.3mJy is believed to be due
to the appearance of the starburst population.
Simpson et al. (2006)
17
Radio source counts
  • At S1.4lt0.3mJy, a new population of X-ray bright
    objects appears.
  • gt15 of 0.1ltS1.4lt0.3mJy sources are radio-quiet
    AGN
  • number depends on fraction of Compton-thick AGN
  • 50 are expected to be FR I radio sources
