  • (2 IEs in a row dismissal from team, 3 total
    per season dismissal from team)

Practices
  • 1 missed practice (excused or unexcused) or
    tardy no competition that week
  • 2 unexcused practices or tardies excused from
    team
  • Athlete must contact a coach BEFORE a missed
    practice to be excused, before 3pm
  • Must have note from parent for scheduled
    conflicts (dentist, etc) BEFORE missed practice
  • Official school activities (band, IB conflicts)
    do not need note, but do need to contact a coach
    before missed practice
  • Some students have alternative practices
    (non-GWHS cross-trainers)

Disruptive Behavior
  • Warning- 6am Study Hall, Room 406
  • First Infraction Official notice (parent
    contacted)
  • Second Infraction released from team
  • Ex Foul language, lewd behavior, disrespect of
    teammates or coaches, deviation from assigned
    workout route, trespassing, cutting/cheating
    during practice, inattentiveness/distraction
    during daily team meetings

Safety
  • NO JAYWALKING
  • Follow traffic lights
  • PAY ATTENTION!
  • Cell phone/ water if needed. Back pak/ fanny
    pak/ Camel pak
  • No jousting with cars/ spectators
  • Injuries Report ALL to coaching staff- BEFORE
    PRACTICE!
  • To return to play, you need a release by
    physician or trainer. SEE EARLY!

Traveling
  • Bus leaves in front of Gym- 20 minutes after
    dismissal
  • YOU are responsible for getting out of class-NOT
    your teacher
  • All athletes travel to and from the meets with
    the team, until the meet is over. Students
    FUNCTIONING in official school activities may be
    dismissed only to their parents, if a note handed
    to coaches th day prior.
  • Wear singlet and shorts, warm-ups, training flats
    to bus.
  • Bring blanket, food/water, homework, umbrella,
    sunscreen, medications. Maybe spikes. NO
    expensive I-pods, laptops, etc
  • Distant meets- bring money for fast-food dinner

Varsity
  • Initial Selection- Summer Practices and DEvelyn
    Scrimmage determine 1st Varsity Team of the
    season
  • Regular Season- Usually, but not always, Top 7
    runners each meet, occasional top 6, ie if 11
    runners, 6-5 split to fill JV Squad, let
    underclassman front run in JV section, huge gap
    between 6 and 7, etc
  • Regional and State teams (Play-offs)- selected
    by coaches based on recent and consistent
    performances. An alternate is sometimes chosen,
    not always.
  • If an out-of-state meet occurs, partial costs are
    provided for 5 athletes.

Practice
  • Weekdays 320- 600pm long days (usu T,Th)
  • 320- 430pm short days (usu M,W,F)
  • meet at tree, inclimate weather Commons
  • Saturdays are mandatory!
  • 9-1130am long
  • 9-10am short
  • No coach contact on Sundays
  • ALWAYS have available watch, water bottle,
    gloves and hat. EVEN IF IT IS 90 DEGREES IN THE
    MORNING WHEN YOU LEAVE HOME!!!
  • Avoid GYM, VB practice

YOU STILL MUST RUN THE WORKOUT EARLIER/ LATER!!!
It is the athletes responsibility to get the
workout from the coaches! Staying on schedule
will prevent injuries!

3 ways to Letter in Cross Country
  • Meet the Time Standards (recognized course)
  • Boys- 1830
  • Girls- 2150
  • Be a State Team participant
  • Complete 4-years in good standing- Senior
  • Must complete entire season.
  • Must be in good standing agreed upon by all
    coaches.
