FRANKENSTEIN
  • My imagination, unbidden, possessed and
guided me …I saw the pale student of unhallowed
arts kneeling beside the thing he had put
togetherI saw the hideous phantasm of a man
stretched out, and then, on the working of some
powerful engine, show signs of life, and stir
    with an uneasy, half-vital.

14
Interestingly….
  • Mary titled the novel Frankenstein or the Modern

Literary Techniques
  • Political agenda
  • Extreme nature (setting and weather)
  • (exotica)

17
A Feminist?
  • I do not wish women to have power over men but
    over themselves.

It is hardly surprising that women concentrate
on the way they look instead of what is in their
minds since not much has been put in their minds
to begin with.
18
A Year of Tragedy
  • In 1822
  • Claires daughter dies at the convent where her
    father has sent her.

    Cemetery in Bournemouth, Dorset, England.
