The beginning...
  • The first school for educating future teachers in
    Lääne County was established in 1844 in Jädivere
  • The most well-known of the establishments
    carrying that vision since have been
  • Läänemaa Teachers Seminary (1921-1932)
  • Haapsalu Teachers Seminary, later Haapsalu
    Pedagogical School (1945-1956).

The beginning...
  • The establishment treaty of Tallinn University
    Haapsalu College was signed on the 20th of May
    1998
  • On the 2nd of September 1998 the Minister of
    Education Mait Klaassen, the director of
    Pedagogical University Mait Arvisto and the
    director of Haapsalu College Eve Eisenschmidt
    opened the doors to the new higher education
    establishment in Haapsalu

  • 1998 - Elementary School Teacher (I and II school
    stage) with a subsidiary subject of the teacher
    of English in basic school
  • 1999 - Computer Science
  • 2002 - Public and Business Management
  • 2003 - Government and Administration (Master
    level)
  • 2004 - Educational Guidance (Master level)
  • 2006 - Computer Science changed into Applied
    Computer Science

  • Colleges facilities have extended through the
    years as follows
  • 1998 the ground floor
  • 1999 the first floor (computer laboratories)
  • 2001 the second floor
  • 2002 the personnel offices and Learning Centre
    (library) on the ground floor
  • 2007 additional facilities for the Swedish
    Community College and Education and Counselling
    Centre
  • From 2004 to 2007 facilities in Lihula mnt 3 were
    also at Colleges disposal

  • A university in a smaller region plays an
    important role in educating the population,
    keeping their options open in the job market and
    preventing them from moving to bigger urban
    centres
  • Colleges role in the region
  • the curricula offered in the College are based on
    regional needs
  • additional curricula are being developed in the
    fields of recreation and handicraft
  • integrated similar curricula in vocational
    training and higher education
  • active participation in forming and executing the
    strategies and development plans of Läänemaa

In-service training...
  • In-service training is mainly offered in the
    fields of

  • computer science
  • Training is supported by the activities of
    various projects
  • In 2006 the development plan of Läänemaa general
    education was completed. Among other things the
    problems that need solving in the closest future
    were pointed out and specified. The decision of
    establishing an Education and Counselling Centre
    (HariN) as a part of Haapsalu College was offered
    as a possible solution to these problems.

  • The main goal of HariN is to support Lääne
    Regions educational development through giving
    educational direction and support
  • The three main activities are
  • Training (training through experience, theme
    training for teachers of basic, secondary and
    vocational schools, leaderships and parents)
  • Counselling (teachers, students and parents)
  • Gathering, storing and systematizing
    methodological materials (including materials
    compiled by teacher students during their
    studies)

    Board
  • The main goals of HC Student Board are
  • to create ways of realising student initiatives

  • In spring 2006 the Association of Haapsalu
    College Graduates was established
  • The aims of the Association are
  • to bring the graduates together again for meeting
    different needs of the college
  • to open a scholarship fund for supporting the
    research and study activities of the present and
    future students
  • to provide a connection between the College and
    the social networks surrounding it
  • to provide opportunities for college graduates to
    meet again!
