Project Goals
Project Results
  • Goal 1
  • Design an enterprise network capable of data
    transmission over fiber optic link
  • Goal 2
  • Research configuration syntax to allow multi-site
    VPN across the network
  • Goal 3
  • Configure routers to enable MPLS VPN
  • Applied logical addressing to network
  • Configured provider edge (PE) routers with MPLS
VPN to enable tag switching for VPN customers.
  • Configured customer edge (CE) routers with OSPF
to advertise customer network to the provider
    (ISP) network.
  • Implemented VPN over SONET system
  • Troubleshoot and assess errors in configuration
    syntax

Project Overview
Routing Protocols
Virtual Private Network
  • Design
  • The network was implemented using the hardware
available in the TARGET lab. The hardware
consisted of two CISCO 12000 routers , two CISCO
6509 switches and three Cisco OC-48 (3-Node Ring).
  • IP addressing was /24 consisting of 3 distinct
    networks.
  • MPLS VPN was configured to route VPN traffic
    through the network
  • Technical Approach
  • We configured all interfaces to adhere to our
logical addressing schema. Applied OSPF and BGP
as primary routing protocols to route traffic end
to end. Using MPLS we created a virtual routing
and forwarding instance (VRF) to allocate VPN
    customers.
  • Organization
  • Our group worked as a whole to configure the
network. Met on a weekly basis to test
    configuration and program equipment. In
addition, the group worked together to
    troubleshoot the network.

Project Conclusions/Outcomes
  • Modified original network configuration to
implement MPLS VPN rather than IPSEC due to IOS
    version discrepancies.
  • Could not complete final network communication
between Gigabit Ethernet to POS interface on PE
    routers due to time constraints.
  • Tested successful communication between CE PE.
  • Tested successful communication between PE PE.
  • Efficient group communication and distribution of
    work
