  • Joey Huston CDF, Atlas
  • Jim Linnemann D0, Atlas?
  • Bernard Pope D0, Atlas
  • Kirsten Tollefson CDF (assistant professor 02)
  • Harry Weerts D0
  • Senior Physicist
  • Bob Miller CDF, Atlas

MSU Staff
  • Electronics mostly booked up by D0
  • Barry Tigner
  • Dan Edmunds D0
  • Philippe Laurens D0
  • Mechanical
  • Ron Richards, engineer CDF, Atlas

Where we are headed
  • We dont want to be 100 Atlas 5 years from now
  • Want project(s) in US
  • We are currently investigating alternatives
  • Auger (North), HiRes, Minos/Off-axis, LC RD
  • Im on sabbatical with Milagro
  • Talks from CDMS, SNAP, GLAST, UNO, Underground
    Lab
  • NSF supported group
  • Joint Auger-HiRes project would be very
    attractive

5
What might we do on Auger?
  • Water Cherenkov modules is best match now
  • Build, assemble, test, ship with tubes (and
    air/N2)
  • North America Site is our interest
  • Experienced construction team
  • hands on Miller, Richards, Nila
  • Instrumented 20-ton Atlas calorimeter modules
  • Designed and built movers, optical polisher,
    optical mixers
  • CDF calorimetry, and many other chamber projects
  • Series production and testing of electronics

6
Realistic Potential Physicist Involvement
  • Now fractional faculty commitments
  • Faculty supervision of construction
  • Other serious commitments to D0, CDF, Atlas
  • Run II Collider program running
  • Significant involvement in Run IIb upgrades
  • D0 and CDF both
  • run-up to Atlas
  • Later one or more full-time faculty possible
  • And possibly some part-time faculty
  • Postdoc and student(s) possible
  • as other commitments wind down
  • Realistic later, not now
