30 Jan 2002, 0740Z, SeaWiFS true color
- Joint NRL-FNMOC presentation of satellite
products - In response to user request, region specific
- Arabian Sea, Afghanistan, Persian Gulf
- Where next?
- MODIS, SeaWIFS true color/dust enhancement,
feature tracking winds - New products low cloud over snow, low clouds at
night, convective cloud top heights - MODIS dust enhancement over the Northern Arabian
Sea, true color over land. Dust over the ocean
appears as shades of pink. Dry lakebeds over
land (often representing sources of dust) are
also indicated in pink. - Horizontal resolution of the data is 0.5 km.

24Tactical Enhanced Satellite Imagery for the
SCIF(TESI)
Description Fleet Numerical currently receives
remotely sensed satellite data from a variety of
sources. The data are processed for ingest into
numerical weather prediction models as well as
for tactical displays. The goal of this project
is to transform this satellite data into a
standard format that customers outside of Fleet
Numerical can use seamlessly within their own
applications and interfaces. Specifically, we
will use web service technology deployed from
the FNMOC OPS and the SCIF to deliver GIS and
other satellite capabilities to SCIF users, GIS
users, Joint Forces, members of the intelligence
community, Special Ops and anti-submarine warfare
operators.
- Deliverables
- Hardware in the Fleet Numerical SCIF
- Software transitioned to Fleet Numerical
Operations that produce calibrated earth located
imagery. - Certification/SSAA/ATOSecond
- A Design and Implementation Plan Traceable to
Requirements. - Requirements Specifications Document which
includes use cases and user Requirements. - Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for hardware
maintenance. - Training
- User Manual
- Operational Relevance
- SCIF users, GIS users, Joint Forces, members of
the intelligence community, Special Ops and
anti-submarine warfare operators currently do not
have access to this information on JWICs. - Making tactical enhanced satellite imagery
available in a standard way on JWICs will enable
the following potential capabilities - Ability for customer to subscribe to satellite
imagery dynamically through a web page, thereby
preventing the need for users to manually
download and transform data into a format they
can use. - Ability to create customized calibrated earth
located satellite imagery derived products. - Standard infrastructure for interfacing with
services. - Opportunity to identify and create new data
services based on needs identified during use of
existing services. - Ultimately we open the opportunity for end users
access to access high resolution images in a
seamless user experience.

36CONOPS Program Coordination with NRL
- PMW120 RDTE funding Assimilation/Models
- PMW120 RDTE funding Tactical Imagery
- POPS funding
- PMW120 OPN NPOESS funding
- CNMOC OMN funding (DOMSAT, DATMS-U, NPP

processing, and display)
37Summary
- FNMOC has requirements for both NWP and Tactical
Imagery - Co-located with NRL FNMOC ability exists to
create new Navy unique EDR's as new sensor
technologies are deployed and requirements evolve - FNMOC continues to play active roles in Satellite
programs DMSP, WINDSAT CODDS, FMQ/SMQ, and NPOESS
38Recommendations
- Advocate that FNMOC has requirements for both NWP
and tactical imagery (same data, warfighter added
value in different ways) - Advocate for continued FMQ-17 regional support
with high bandwidth circuits to FNMOC for
development and COOP - Continued CNMOC support of DMSP and NPOESS
programs
