2Introduction
- The main objective of construction project
management is to control Time (T), Quality (Q),
and Money (M). - A project consists of three components scope,
budget and schedule.
3Introduction
- Typical villa ( Our Project) controlled by
- Earned value technique.
- Primavera soft ware.
- Simphony soft ware.
4Introduction
- Many problems like cost overruns, time extensions
and conflicts among all parties. - Unique nature of construction projects, high
risk, highly fragmented, high competition and
increasing challenges. - The construction project management is needed
to- Utilize resources, meet project requirements
and deadlines, improve quality and safety , etc.
5Problems during construction
- Hundreds of workers must come to gather to
complete their assignments. - Many activities consume more than their estimated
time and cost. - If one crew works finishes its work early, the
following crew are not obliged to start earlier
than initially planned.
6Problems during construction
- Frequent changes are introduced to the scope of
work, thus causing a lot of work disruption and
cost overrun. - Some trades proceed slower than desired whereas
others proceed faster than desired - Dealing with suppliers and subcontractors.
7Objectives of project control
- Accurately follow the project plan.
- Work breakdown structure.
- Prepare cost estimate for all activities and
prepare a budget for the sponsor approval. - Evaluate project performance depend on cost, time
and quality. - Implement a control system to identify schedule
variances and take corrective action to achieve
project schedule targets.
8Quality Control
- Quality in Civil Engineering is the single factor
that determines a good construction from any
other construction.
9Quality Control of Excavation
- Excavation depend on the soil investigation.
- Site should be clear from all organic materials.
- Reach the accurately lines and levels shown in
the drawing. - Support the lateral edges to prevent failure.
10Quality Control of Formwork
- Its the casing into which concrete is places.
- Forms should be designed and constructed that
concrete can be properly placed and thoroughly
compacted.
11Tolerance of Formwork
12Quantities Take Off and Cost EstimateI- The
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

and cost
14III- Creating the Dependencies
15Time and Cost Control
- meets the client's requirements and achieves the
best possible cost, schedule, and quality
performance. - Effective cost and schedule management are the
cornerstone activities of each project. - S-Curve and Earned value techniques are used to
control cost and time in a typical villa project.
16Cost Distribution
S-curve for Cumulative Cost Curve on An Early
Start and Late Start
17The Earned Value Technique
- Earned Value is an objective measurement of how
much work has been accomplished on a project. - The Earned value technique lends itself very well
to the analysis of the cost and schedule
performance in a project.
18Cost and Time control
- The Earned value analysis was provided to
evaluate the progress of the typical villa
project. - The original budget was DHS 552925 and the
project scheduled to be completed in 123 working
days. - A status report after different times were
calculated.
19Earned Value Measures for typical villa project
20Earned Value Measures for typical villa project
21Cost and Schedule Deviations
22Cost and Schedule Performance
23 Project Performance Indices
24Forecasting for the typical villa project at end
of second month
- Estimate at completion (EAC)
- ACWP (BCWS at completion BCWP / CPI)
- EAC 147725 (552925 156925 / 1.0623)
- DHS 552928
- The estimated cost of the project at completion
is DH'S 552928, which is DH'S 3 over the original
budget of DH'S 552925.
25Primavera Project Planner
- P3 is the recognized standard for
high-performance project management software - Helps construction manager in control finishing
the project on time within the allocated budget. - Finding out what really happened, how much was
actually accomplished, what remains to be done,
and who will be available to do it
26The benefits of Primavera in Construction Project
Management
- Improved scheduling and analysis to stay on
target. - Easy project planning and implementation
- Construction-specific reports, layouts and
filters. - Helps you build a project network quickly and
graphically - Simplifies tracking resources and costs
27Control large and complex projects efficiently
- P3 is designed to handle large-scale, highly
sophisticated and multifaceted projects - To organize projects up to 100,000 activities.
- P3 provides unlimited resources and an unlimited
number of target plans.
28Components of the P3 window
- The P3 window contains several elements that
enable you to access information quickly and
easily using either a mouse or the keyboard. - Primavera can present the data in two forms
- Bar Chart
- PERT
29Applying P3 to graduation project (typical villa)
- The total number of activities was 86.
- The project starting date was September 1, 2003
and should finish on January 24, 2004 .
30Bar Chart
- The bar chart shows the corresponding schedule
with activity bars positioned along a timescale.
31PERT
- You can use a PERT to construct your project
plan, adding activities and relationships in a
logical flow.
32Simulation
- Simphony represents an evolution in computer
simulation and its integration in to construction
industry. - It is the result of over five years of research.
- you create simulation model using a library of
modeling elements.
33Simulation
- The purpose of the Simulation.
