Aims and Objectives
  • The aims of the programme are
  • to oversee the expansion of NVQ level 3
    qualifications
  • to strengthen and build relationships with
    employers
  • to develop a Flexible and Rapid Response
    Curriculum

  • to provide a vehicle for access into and out of
    the CoVE
  • to develop the implementation of progression
    routes
  • to provide leadership in sharing best practice

Development Rationale
  • Development of Level 3 qualifications and Master
    Craftsman/Technician Award
  • Certain vocational areas within manufacturing
    have not been formally recognised or serviced in
    terms of NVQs e.g. NDT, CI

  • The Master Craftsman/Technician Award will
    build upon and update the skills and education
    previously acquired through -
  • a) the AMA framework or
  • b) experience achieved at NVQ level 3 or
    equivalent.
  • The outcome will bring together empowerment,
    responsibility, experience and academic
    attainment leading towards NVQ level 4/5.
  • This will result in greater flexibility and
    competence of the workforce to meet the demands
    of 21st century manufacturing.

  • To strengthen and build on existing relationships
  • To encourage young people to follow a career in
    manufacturing through mentorship and practical
    work experience with a training provider.
  • To develop more effective and co-ordinated
    recruitment techniques.

  • Develop secondment opportunities for
    vocationally experienced people from industry to
    deliver specialist skills for training providers.
  • To provide skills updating opportunities for
    training provider/schools staff.
  • To develop consultancy services and delivery
    techniques that would utilise where necessary
    shared resources.

Flexible and Rapid Response Curriculum
  1. To develop a Flexible and Rapid Response
    Curriculum to meet the present and future skills
    needs of employers and other key stakeholders,
    that will embed a culture of innovation and
    technical excellence.

Access and Participation
  1. To provide a vehicle for access and participation
    of groups traditionally excluded from learning,
    or disadvantaged in the labour market.

Progression Routes
  1. To ensure the implementation and consolidation of
    progression routes to further study including HE.

Leadership
  • To provide leadership for future development of a
    vocational curriculum particularly in specialist
    areas.
  • To establish development networks from 14-16
    yrs, further, higher and work-based education and
    training.
