Title: THE CENCENELEC EUROPEAN MARK FOR THERMAL INSULATION PRODUCTS
1THE CEN/CENELEC EUROPEAN MARK FOR THERMAL
INSULATION PRODUCTS
2Aims of the KeyMark for thermal insulation
products
- To provide a quality certification mark to
enhance CE marking - To demonstrate continuing conformity with
European standards - To provide a coordinated certification activity
within the framework of CEN/CENELEC - To provide a mark with wide scale acceptance by
manufacturers, specifiers and users.
3Overview of standards within the scope of CEN/TC88
Product standards (10) for Thermal insulation
products for buildings - Factory made products of
Specification
- EN 13162 mineral wool (MW)
- EN 13163 expanded polystyrene (EPS)
- EN 13164 extruded polystyrene foam (XPS)
- EN 13165 rigid polyurethane foam (PUR)
- EN 13166 phenolic foam (PF)

- EN 13171 wood fibre (WF)
4Overview of standards within the scope of CEN/TC88
List to be extended with other standards in
preparation
- products for building equipment and industrial
installations - in-situ formed products
- external insulation composite systems (ETICS)
Standards/documents in relation to certification
- EN 13172, Thermal insulation products
Evaluation of conformity - EN ISO/IEC 17025, General requirements for the
competence of testing and calibration
laboratories - CEN/CENELEC - Internal regulations - Part 4
Certification - (SDG-5 N22) CEN/CENELEC European Mark Scheme for
Thermal Insulation Products
5Relationship CE-Marking vs. Keymark
6Benefits of the KeyMark
The KeyMark scheme for thermal insulating
products an answer to the needs of industry
and purchasers.
7Benefits of the KeyMark
- The promotion of EN-standards for thermal
insulating products - A quality certification mark enhancing the CE
mark and assuring continuing conformity of ALL
product characteristics - An independent confirmation of the manufacturers
performance data and product information - The potential rationalisation of existing
certification needs for similar products
throughout Europe, providing cost savings - Multi-lateral recognition of participating
certification bodies and laboratories.
8Background
The Keymark scheme for thermal insulating
products
ensuring continuing conformity through 3rd party
testing against all the requirements of the
standard
an enhancement of the limited requirements of
CE-marking.
9Background
The request of the industry and purchasers is
supported by
- CEN-statutes
- to encourage the identification of products
which conform to European standards - facilitates the development of procedures for
the mutual recognition of conformity test results
to standards, as well as for European systems of
conformity assessment to standards, to be
implemented either by CEN itself or by other
parties - CEN-Certification Board (CCB)
- To set up internal rules for certification
systems, organized by the CEN National Member
Body through its Certification Body recognized by
the CEN Certification Board and through
Certification Bodies empowered by the CEN
Certification Board.
10Background
The request of the industry and purchasers is
supported by
- CEN/TC88
- to request member states to appeal to the
CPD-mandate n103 as it deals with only the fire
performance for a higher level of attestation of
confirmity system - to ensure a mutual confidence within the use of
the TC88-standards, especially for - the test methods
- the implementation of the ?D-performance based on
?90/90 ( 90 of the production with a
confidence level of 90) - the product grouping on performance
