Title: Learning Styles

1
Learning Styles
  • This course is designed as a third year course so
requires more intiative by the learners.
  • We are teaching a subject that is not defined
    with clear questions or processes.
  • We want you to work out processes that suits your
    work methods and design approach.
  • We need you to ask us questions. We can answer
them. We cannot answer comments such as 'MS
Project does not work' or 'I don't know what to
    do'.
  • Compare the process to debugging software.

2
Learning Approach
  • The Aims are your deliverables
  • The activites are to 'get them out the door'
  • The tasks you have to work out. Eg
  • Project Management
  • enter estimates
  • enter actuals
  • Compare actuals to estimates

3
Design Steps
  • Design has some basic steps you can use
  • Read requirements
  • Context document gives you the context for
    Context Level DFD
  • E-R Diagram gives you the Data Store
  • Divide DFD level 0 into sub-systems(or a separate
processes) for maintaining each major data store
  • Look at Use Case. What data store does it deal
    with.
  • Expand the Proces that manages that data store,
    following the Use Case

4
Example of Learning QA
  • We provided you with the aspects of quality the
    client is looking for
  • If we had provided the measures and processes to
measure, you could follow these without thinking
  • Now, you need to consider
  • Why am I measuring these?
  • What I am measuring?
  • How I will measure them?
  • You can limit your QA to look at aspects of the
design you want to concentrate on, eg
  • do the inputs and output to the functional
processes of the DFD actually exist in data flows
    in and out
  • OR is the functional description doing what the
    client asked

5
Tutors
  • The tutors are all experts, some in different
    areas
  • This is a problem
  • If you do not ask, we will explain as we see it
  • If you tell us where you are coming from, we can
explain it as you might see it

6
Where to from here
  • Look at the templates provided (also in html now)
    for the deliverables http//www.cse.unsw.edu.au/
    cs3710/PMmaterials/Forms
  • Try to do them first.
  • If you have a problem, work out what the problem
    is. Formulate questions only.
  • Ask you friends, your pair or the tutor.
  • If not clear, try the consultations or email
administrator. Maybe your questions are not clear
