(ELLs) to Speaking Shakespeare Lesson plan

Modified Lesson Plan

• Students begin the lesson by discussing and
  listening to podcasts
• Students first group reading is a clarifying
  reading
• Handouts and grading rubric contain visual
  representations whenever possible
• Students primarily analyze the language as a
  whole class, and then again in small groups for
  re-enforcement
• Extra time has to be spent teaching tone( many
  students first languages do not use tone to
  convey meaning in the same way as English does)
• Final product is an audio podcast

• Students begin the lesson by constructing a
  personal sound inventory
• Students first group reading is a choral
  readings
• Students analyze metrical stress
• Students primarily analyze the speech in small
  groups
• Students analyze how volume, pitch and pause
  effect meaning
• Final product is a speech with written
  directorial commentary

• Lesson focus is on analyzing the meaning of
  Shakespeares language and how sound effects
  meaning
• Students do choral readings, clarifying
  readings, tonal readings and grammatical readings
• Students analyze tone, pace and stress
