October Revolution
  • Lenin declared time was right for revolution with
    support of the Petrograd Soviet and the Red
    Guards.
  • Co-ordinated by Trotsky, Bolsheviks seized key
    points in Petrograd including the Winter Palace.
  • Overnight coup, few casualties.

Bolsheviks Position
  • Extremely precarious
  • SR leader would last no more than a few days.
  • Limited power many soviets in control of
    Mensheviks SRs and non-socialists.
  • In the countryside, Bolshevik presence virtually
    non-existent.
  • Civil servants were on strike.
  • State Bank refused to hand over money. It took 10
    days to access funds.
